I am the only "serious" bass fisher in my group of friends / relatives. In my late teens to mid 20's i wanted to fish with a bud. After that, i would fish alone around 75 percent of the time, for the same reasons that everyone else has stated already. I'll be 64 next month, and the last few years i usually have a bud or my wife with me on the boat. I need a witness!?  My next door neighbor has a grandson about 12yo, that said likes to fish, so i showed him some of my lures and the next time he came over to pop pop's , he brought his backpack/tacklebox. That little shxx had a couple of hard baits that i want. Anyways, his parents are divorced, and i'm gonna ask his mom if he could go out fishing with me sometime this summer. I know he would enjoy it. And i would too...

I bank fish and 9 times out of 10, I'm by myself, beating the bank and loving the solitude. There's the off chance the wife will wake up with me and go out, and when she does I enjoy those times more than anything.

There is a guy I've taken out fishing several times with me.  Once we are ON the lake, he is okay but loading and unloading the boat at the ramp, he is next to worthless.  Anything at all pertaining to the boat and, well, he seems to play dumb a lot.  I've also found out recently that he's complained to a mutual friend that I stay out too long.  If I take him out again, I'll have him meet me at the dock so I can drop him off when he wants to leave.  If he doesn't want the drive, he doesn't have to come.

 

I've noticed that when I am fishing with someone else, I tend to alter/modify my methods and tactics to keep them happy but when I am by myself, I can stay as long as I want and do exactly what I want.  I don't always do better this way but I also don't find myself asking "what if....?" as much either.  Still, it's more fun to share a good fish story when there is witness or participant to the event.

 

There are tradeoffs with both styles.  Bank fishing, I prefer to be by myself.  On the boat, it depends on who I am fishing with.

I absolutely cherish getting to take out my dad or teenage daughters. Memories I'll never forget and we always keep a no complaint rule on the boat to make the best of that time together. Fishing by myself still helps with my mental well-being, but nothing beats being on the water with family (or friends).

I enjoy fishing with others as well. Most of the time no one wants to go. If they do it’s not when I want to. Most days I am on and off the water before these folks get outta bed.

Love to fish by myself; love to fish with close others. Don’t want to listen to nonstop drivel or to go with anyone who doesn’t enjoy it regardless of the catch
