evo2s197 Posted June 3, 2021 Posted June 3, 2021 My most productive days are when I'm alone on my boat, I'm not concerned with making sure the other person gets on fish or getting them unstuck, I can fish exactly how I want for as long as I want. Quote

Deephaven Posted June 3, 2021 Posted June 3, 2021 When the fishing is bad I like to have a fishing buddy with, when it is what we call hot f#$@ action I enjoy being alone.  Quote
softwateronly Posted June 3, 2021 Posted June 3, 2021 I fish alone 95% of the time. If my cousin and old neighbors schedule aligned more, I'd be more than happy to lower that percentage, otherwise, this is still great. If there wasn't such a demanding bait monkey, this would be the cheapest therapy ever.   Now if I can just get my dog to not absolutely lose her mind when I have a fish on, my partner would be set!  scott Quote
Super User Log Catcher Posted June 3, 2021 Super User Posted June 3, 2021 I used to fish alone most of the time until I had my knee replacement surgeries. Ever since then my wife has gone with me every time out. It limits my time on the water but it is nice to have someone to back the boat in for you. Our trips together are very enjoyable. 2 Quote
Super User WRB Posted June 4, 2021 Super User Posted June 4, 2021 No longer have a boat, if I want to fish it’s with a friend. I enjoyed fishing by myself during rainy weather pre spawn because didn’t want to subject anyone to sit for hours, just focus on fishing. Time with family and friends shouldn’t be wasted, looked back spent too much time alone. Tom  4 2 Quote

I grew tired of silly looking pics.  Great idea! There are a lot of options for photos when alone.  I do the GoPro on my hat brim, and I have some awesome shots and videos I couldn't get any other way. I even discovered how my bail can close while casting if I'm not careful (see below), explaining some of my "I know I opened the bail!" moments. I watched a vid in slow motion and saw it happen. Aha!!!  Some options for fish photos are setting the camera on a rock, clipping it to a tree. I have a giant clip that connects the GoPro to my hat that comes off in less than a second if I want. I can clip it to anything, or just set it on the ground if I have to.  I have the GoPro almost every time I go. When you fish alone it's cool to have so you can show off to friends. It sees everything I see.  Here's the short video of my "open or closed" bail cast discovery. It's got a lame voiceover but you get the point. Oh ya I've clipped the GoPro to my rod too for fun.   5 Quote
Guitarfish Posted June 4, 2021 Posted June 4, 2021 There is no lonelier feeling than the one that comes over you when thinking about your best bud that passed. I have tons and tons of fishing stuff and would trade it all for a couple  of striper trips with him again. That song 'You can't make old friends' says it all. So yeah, I fish alone. 1 Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted June 4, 2021 Super User Posted June 4, 2021 I like fishing alone or with someone else. Whichever one Ive done the most lately, I really enjoy  it when I can do the other one. Does that make sense? 1 Quote
HookInMouth Posted June 4, 2021 Posted June 4, 2021 I almost never fish completely alone. Usually on a kayak but my wife and/or son are usually close by in theirs. There's also always a 75lb yellow lab that cannot abide missing a fishing trip as well. Quote

I don't care how the boat gets launched, or loaded. I don't care how they land my fish. I don't care if they cast into the trees, constantly talk, smack me it the head with their lure when casting, complain about the fish not biting and wanting to head in. I do, however, care when a combination of three or more of those things happen within the first hour and the second hour on the water. In those instances there is no third hour on the water for them. The rest of the day I fish alone in my boat and really relish the solitude. Anyone else feel the same? So true. When I was younger and didn’t have a boat I was so excited when I got the chance to go with someone with a boat and get out on the water. I went out of my way to he helpful and upbeat and not be a third wheel.  The worst is when someone keeps hitting my outboard with their lure when casting because they’re not paying attention. Drives me crazy. Quote
MGF Posted June 5, 2021 Posted June 5, 2021 I've always done a LOT of hunting and fishing alone. I think that's mostly because I happened to be alone when I decided that I wanted to go fishing or hunting. there are people who would tell you that I'm a "loner" but I'm not. What I am is "independent".  But there have been so many treasured times with great fishing/hunting partners that I wouldn't trade for anything. I guess you have to put me down for both. Quote
TriStateBassin106 Posted June 5, 2021 Posted June 5, 2021 I personally prefer fishing alone but when the bite is slow I do enjoy the small talk, you get to know someone more when the bite is slow I noticed. Quote

I take horrible selfies and my buddies give me crap. So I use this. It is a railblaza but their are plenty of options for your car should be able to modify for your boat. Just an option. 1 Quote
Jleebesaw Posted June 6, 2021 Posted June 6, 2021 I like having someone with me. That said, I do fish alone quite often. The 2 guys who usually go with me are good anglers and don't really cause me any annoyances. Bit if I can't get one of them to go I still fish. I like all the joking and ***ting that goes on out in the water.      I notice that I tend to fish better when I'm alone though. I'm sure my line is in the water more when I'm alone. Also, I'm more willing to try things that I'm not sure will work. Not being concerned with a slower bite means I can experiment and try new techniques or tactics. I learned about offshore fishing alone. Didn't want to try it and get skunked if somebody else was counting on me to put them on fish. Quote

greentrout Posted June 7, 2021 Posted June 7, 2021 As an old codger, I prefer, and usually do, fish alone while bank fishing making a cast for the beloved bass hoping to feel that tap on my rod.  When in a jon boat or boat, I want someone with me ... accidents happen when you least expect them ..  Good Fishing ... 1 Quote

Super User whitwolf Posted June 7, 2021 Super User Posted June 7, 2021 I fished with a buddy for 10 years. The last two were not fun. I quit asking him to go.  I have pretty.much fished alone ever since and enjoy it a lot. Like @A-Jay I really enjoy when my wife goes and she is a hoot to have on the boat.  I have said many times; I am truly blessed to be able to do something I love. 2 Quote
Super User Boomstick Posted June 7, 2021 Super User Posted June 7, 2021 I can fish alone or with some people. I fish with my kids a lot, my youngest in particular is pretty in tune with whatever I'm trying to do so it's no hassle at all. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 8, 2021 Global Moderator Posted June 8, 2021 When I fish alone I can fish how and where I want to fish and I feel no pressure to put anyone else on fish. I don't have to worry about someone stepping on my boat seats or my rods, spilling dye or Coke on my carpet or grinding mud and weeds into it, it's just me trying to figure out the bite for the day. There's a few people I enjoy going fishing with, and I make exceptions for certain people, but for the most part anymore, I enjoy going by myself. Quote
