I've been searching for a cheaper version of Gamakatsu hooks. I love their wacky hooks, but they are not cheap. After doing some research, I found these VMC wacky hooks. They look good in pic, but the review says otherwise. Has anyone tried them, and if so what's your assessment?

I have lost more fish on that specific hook than on all the other wacky hooks I've ever tried. I do not recommend it.

I’ve used the VMC Weedless Wacky hooks and not a fan, as I’ve had some issues with hook ups.  I do use their Neko Weedless hooks and like those for fishing wacky rigs

In my opinion, the weed guard is too strong and doesn't always release when you get bit, that is to say, in my experiences it doesn't release when it is supposed to more often than not.  The games ain't that much more expensive, so with those.

If you must have a wacky hook with a wire mouse trap style weed guard, go with the Falcon K- Wacky hooks - either weighted or not.   These are the hooks I use most of the time.

I can honestly say the Ike Approved Wacky hooks are probably the worst hooks I've ever used.  The VMC weedless wackys straight out of the pack are just about child proof.  Even with the guard modified or removed the ratio is poor.  Hayabusas lighter wire wacky hooks are better in just about every way and cost less, Decoys are great as well.  If you have some bigger mosquito/octopus hooks for DS 2/0 or bigger try them they work really well.  Neko style hooks work as well, VMC makes a really good neko so does Owner, just depends on the style hook you want.

I just saved some $$, and more importantly a major headache. Thank you.

I prefer VMC's weedless Neko Hook for the simple reason when the bass inhales the plastic & they will, it has a long shank that I can get my pliers on.

The weedless Ike ones are pretty bad.  I like the Owner Jungle Weedless Wacky hooks but they are about the same price as the Gamakatsu ones.   The Trokar ones are good but they don't stay sharp long.
