Really want a okuma 6’6 ultra light 4Lb that cast 1/32-3/8 lures for my new setup. Saw this 8ft & 7’6 ultra light rod that cast 1/32-3/8 lures. They had the same rod 6’6 but it was a medium light that only cast 1/8-3/8.

Wanted to fish for small trout in creeks & small lakes/ponds & enjoy the little fights on the ultra. Don’t want a rod to long due to creek fishing and going after small fish but would still like to cast quite a ways at the pond. Will I really have to get a 8 or 7’6 ft rod just to cast those small 1/32 lures?

bought quite a bit of 1/32 lures before I found out my setup won’t cast them correctly or farther then 20ft. Out to buy a new rod real soon & figured I’d ask for opinions

I'd say 6'6" would be fine. When your fishing that light of lure a longer rod can deaden your feel and cause you to over work it (especially if you're micro jigging). Another thing that would help is dropping down to 2lb line. That'd help you get a bit more distance plus better feel for your lure. Maxima ultragreen is really abrasion resistant even in that light of test, that's what I use on my trout setup and I've landed fish up to 8lbs on it.

Yeah I figured 6’6 is really what I need & I want to stick to that length. Just worried that it won’t cast the variety of lures I plan on using. Also only other down side was that the 6’6 wasn’t rated ultra light but the others were. I’ve never paid much mind to what the rods say besides when picking out line but I want to this time cause I will be out deep in the woods fishing secluded lakes & rivers & would hate to come up empty handed. I mainly use 1/6 1/4 oz lures for distance but I want to be able to cast a 1/32 1/24 properly 30-35 feet to catch those small trout. Just worried I’ll have to go up to a 7’6 rod just to cast theses lures the way I want them.

Where I use my long small game rods is wide open spaces, and where I need to cast that light weight out to 100'

The long rods are designed for shore fishing, and the UL for stream fishing.

The deadened feel thing doesn't apply, though - this 8'3" rod weighs 73 grams and always shocks when you pick it up.  It will also cast 30% farther than a 7'6" rod - Big fish sip tiny baits here all winter, and if you don't feel it, you don't catch them.

Main question I’m after is do I need to buy a rod that says 1/32 lure so I can cast that size. I’ve tried before on my 6 foot light rod with 10lb braided & it wouldn’t go more then 30 ft so made my cast useless as I wasn’t able to get out to where I knew the fish were

I would say yes - that's basically 1 g (0.9 g) and if the rod low-end is not rated for that, a lure that light won't load the tip to get spring and launch from the rod.

8' NS Black Hole Rockfish UL 1-5 g (1/32 to 3/16 oz)

This is a cost-effective workhorse rod that has caught many fish including doubles with snook and redfish.

ZoeSFH2.jpg

7'9" Takamiya UL 0.6 to 6 g - this rod is over 12 y-o - won't find one exactly like it,

JBOWWV3.jpg

again, everything above are shore-fishing rods

For your use, I would pick a Major Craft Trout UL spinning rod from this ebay search

The Major Craft Troutino rods are right there at 0.9 to 7 g.

From what I see, the ebay prices on these rods vary with shipping - economy v. Express (some listings are over-priced, and some high-grade rods mixed in).

Other search includes Major Craft bass and rockfish UL

My buddy fishes Major Craft Crostage 7'6" rockfish 0.4 to 5 g

He and his wife both put it through its paces on seatrout to 22"

Here's NS Black Hole trout UL from Maguro Pro Shop in Croatia - a very reliable vendor - I believe their shipping is DHL Express, but they have great English and quick to answer questions.

I'll add this about low-grade NS Black hole rods - they don't cut corners on blanks or components - just on manual labor for finishing (unpolished blank).

Look up Trout spinning rods, Fenwick and St. Croix offer several excellent trout rods. The last you need is a long rod stream and creek spin fishing. If you wade the longer fly rods are a good choice.

You might already got good answers from @bulldog1935

Now my take on this subject and no I don’t claim to be an expert just a guy used to be in your shoes once.

First of all, I would have two setups, creek short, easy to handle and portable, pond as long as you can for maximizing distance.
Secondly, 1/32oz lure? What kind of lure? true/total weight at 1/32oz? If total weight 1/32oz that gonna be hard on UL rod to get good distance. You might have to go down all the way to SUL, XUL type rod lure rated down to 1/64oz or lower.

Other things that would help in casting distance especially for super light weight lures is line. 10lb braid is quite heavy for 1/32oz lure to have energy to pull out line for long distance. You might have to go down to 4 or 6lb braid to see some improvement or special line like Nanofil/Nanobraid.

for the budget rod, check trout magnet website. they are ready to ship.

if you willing to wait, go and order 7.6 one power edge rods, affordable but taking longer to deliver.

if you willing to pay high end, PM me :)

they all able to cast 1/64

I can second Bulldog1935's comments and suggestions.  He put me onto NS Blackout UL Rods.  They are blanks manf in South Korea not China. The fit and finish of these rods is very much equal to JDM rods.  I picked up both the rockfish II which should be here any day.  My screw-up delayed it.  The other I picked up as a dedicated trout rod.  It's $241 the Taufin-S 632UL.  My pics are to big to upload but I hosted them at the link below.

Having it in hand I compared it to my Megabass Destroyer X4 House of Finesse F3.1/2-66X4S as they are both UL spinning rods.  The Taufin-S easily matches the MD HOF for quality and finish and detail.  Difference is $241 vs $370.  The Taufin-S is 2 piece which I honestly prefer as I find no difference in the rods perf and makes storing and traveling so much easier.  The Taufin has Fugi K SIC Guides and VSS 16 Slim Seat.

My Taufin-S is very close to meeting your lure weight spec you desire.  Mine goes 2g-10g @6'3".   It's paired or will be when my reel arrives Stradic FL 1000S, CF double handle 72mm

If you really do plan small creeks streams etc you might do best with an even shorter rod around 4'5"-5'2". Its length was recommended to me by Bulldog as well as a few others for that type of fishing.  Taufin-s has a 483UL it's 4'8" has a lure range of 0.4-2.0 grams.  That puts 1g right in the sweet spot.  Hiking into creeks etc is much easier with a short rod and one in two pieces even more so.  Rod weight is a scant 61g/2.1oz.  Paired up with a 500 Soare/Vanford. Spool up with some pe#0.2-0.4 Suffix Nanobraid which is a minuscule 0.08-0.1 or if you don't mind ordering JDM/AUM Gosen Samon X8  in p.e.# 0.4 is a top premium braid.  Finish off with some Seaguar GrandMax FX pe 0.6 4lb fluoro leader would be an ultimate UL  trout small water setup IMO.

I actually plan to get this rod soon for just that use in that rod reel line combo.  Creeks, streams, small ponds, and small fingers on lakes to catch trout(brookies), gills, black bass etc.  Breaks down to a 3ft package that ready to fish weighs in at 200g/7oz.  I plan to use both but the 6'3" for river floats/shore etc and the 4'8" for creeks streams anywhere lots of overhang but will also use it on the river as well as a 2nd setup.  I really like the grip/handle on the 482ul.  Attention to detail on my rod is great.

That rod with the Soare CI+4 500s + 100 yd of green 4lb nanobraid or gosen samon x8 would make a sweet UL setup.

You can get a rod that can throw a little grub or swimbait with a 1/32 head 40-50ft without too much trouble as long as your go with really light line.  I dont really like ULs for distance, I do better with Ls or even MLs rated 1/16-3/8.  I bought a Fenwick Eagle 7ft UL 1/32-1/4 (might be 3/8) and its too soft for distance with a 1/32.

Our OP is really describing a need for two rods.

He wants a good distance rod, and a longer progressive taper fits the bill - it takes a long rod to get the lure weight range he's asking.

He also wants a brook trout small-stream rod, and a traditional short para taper UL fits best there.

IMO, the compromise rod that will cast 1 g (1/32 oz) is the $100 6' Black Hole 1-5-g that I linked above - here again.  That's 1/32 to 3/16 oz.

If you want to cast 1/32 to 3/8 oz to good distance, that's the longer rod, but it's not going to fit in tightly hung spaces.

I'd go with 2 poles for what you want to do. My small stream trout rod is a 6ft UL and usually use 2# mono throwing 1/64th oz hand tied fly jigs.

Possible low cost option?   Ace Hawk Double.  6' 2-tips.  .5-4g  (.018-.141 oz.) and 2-6g (.07-.212 oz.) tips.
