Once you get one of there chips and you load it on your Lowrance, can you take it out and load it on somebody elses?

The software does not get loaded on the unit's memory, it stays on the chip and is read directly from it. When the chip is removed from a unit, that unit will not have the file anymore.

OK thanks to all of you!!!!

The reason I ask is because I might get one to use on my dad's GPS and when I get my own boat I would like to use it on my GPS.

Also remember, waypoints created on one GPS graph will not transfer to another by removing the chip and putting it into another graph.  The waypoints are stored within the graph they were created on and do not transfer onto the mapping chip.

I didn't even think about that!!!

Thanks for the info!!

The waypoint transfer is correct as far as the map software card, BUT you can download the saved waypoints of one unit onto an easily obtained blank SD card and upload them to another directly within the same brand or they can be converted to be read by another brand.
