Fishing on holiday weekends?

Ya I hear ya Bubba.  In my younger days, I would have had far less patience and the situation could have become confrontational.  I've learned to simply avoid the problem now instead.  If I'm not there, I can't get frustrated and most of the time I have the ability to fish less crowded times so that is what I'm going to do now.  If someone is dicking around at the access point now holding up the show, I simply wait.  I have found it much better to be patient and say nothing than to make matters worse by starting to bark.  Plus you never know what kind of person you might run into.  A hot head might out there might fire back.

Same here.  At times I will do a weekend if I haven't been able to get out at other times, but for the most part, I avoid the heavy traffic nowadays.

I still fished this weekend, and when I went fishing from a dock wit my friend, I only saw like 5 boats out during my whole fishing trip. They usually slowed down in front of us, too! So for me it wasn't too busy out this weekend. Normally it is very crowded though.

I had plans to go out this weekend, but it was 44 degrees and rainy all weekend.

 

Had it been nice out, I would have gone to some small motorless lake in the middle of nowhere that is not a destination for the recreational crowd

Had to go out with the inlaws on their new boat and either find a cove to anchor in or a less busy island. We did both, I brought one rod just to occupy some time if I got the chance.

 

Started fishing off a small edge of the island away from everyone, anyone else fishing was on the complete opposite side. I caught 2 bass and my nephews were excited to see them. Well...10 minutes after my second *** people with bobbers crowded both sides of me to the point I nearly couldnt case without smacking someone. Had their 2 pit bulls off leash buggin me and the grill we were trying to cook on. Against my better judgement I kept my mouth shut and got back on the boat. Not even 30 seconds went by and a 4th took the exact spot I was standing.

 

I just hate most people. You dont have to be big into fishing to know not to stand 5 feet away from someone, or to keep your dogs contained or even collect them when you see them bugging other people instead of looking the other way. Common courtesy, respect and sense has gone out the window in peoples upbringing. I dread every summer holiday and any time I have to be around any large group of people.

i failed to mention on previous post that the lake we were at is the one that has the most jetskis and power boats running around but at 5pm when we arrived the lake was dead silent, no kids screaming, no music, no smell of barbeque, absolutely nothing going on which was fantastic.

 

Where was everybody? the weather was warm and sunny 75 very little wind. Maybe the water is a bit cool yet for watersports but it was just to quite for a big holiday day.

Absolutely. I can have my boat in or out of the water in well under two minutes so why, oh why does it take, "dip stick", 20 minutes!?

As much as people generally just suck, we have all mostly lost the ability to be patient. I’m not saying everyone should be a ****** and expect kindness but I constantly remind myself that they’re people too. Who knows what’s going on. And I’d prefer grace when I’m taking 20 minutes at the ramp cause I’m just sucking that day.  I’m the guy that takes 5 seconds to order my coffee at Starbucks. Takes me almost 5 minutes if I’m ordering for my family.

I got out Sunday and didn't have any issues.  It wasn't even crowded.  But I did go to a different lake than usual.  I purposely chose one that was a bit more out of the way, and one that wasn't known as a good fishery.  That way I wouldn't have to deal with crowds, which was more of a safety thing since I'm in a kayak.  It worked in that I was mostly alone all day.  It didn't work in that the fishing was rough, because it is a poorly managed lake.  

 

I'm not the kind of guy who gets upset easily.  If nothing else, fishing has taught me the value of patience.  If you see someone taking forever at the ramp, just ask if they want a hand.  It'll either help speed them up, or it'll give you something to do while you wait.  Getting angry about it is only gonna hurt you.  And no self imposed burden is worth carrying.

Dunno when, but the DNR page is quite specific

"Know and follow all trout-related Regulations, in particular 1) Trout Stamp licensed validation needed (for most license types) for fishing Designated trout waters or having trout in possession"

They do list Little Long as not a designated trout lake - but I'd rather be safe than sorry...and the $10 goes to trout stocking program, so money well spent IMO.
