Brutal_boost Posted May 28, 2021 Posted May 28, 2021 I'm getting sick of the memory on the red label and I'm wanting to start using more premium lunes. I've heard great things about Tatsu but I don't want to spend that much if it doesn't hold up. How often do you guys have to respool Tatsu? Any other suggestions for better casting and softer lines are appreciated! Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted May 28, 2021 Super User Posted May 28, 2021 Invizx is better than red label and cheaper than Tatsu. 3 Quote
Super User islandbass Posted May 28, 2021 Super User Posted May 28, 2021 What do you mean by hold up? For example, hold up in durability? Resilience? Resisting memory? Because for $40 give or take, it had better be magical, lol. Just ribbing you because I’ve had similar thoughts on Tatsu. While I have been convinced by our brothers here who swear by it, the environment I’d be using it in snag city rip rap so $40 is a bit tough to swallow. One store in my area carries it and it’s 30 miles away. I walk into the store like a man on a mission with the tatsu spool in hand, then I walk out like a mouse empty handed. Squeak squeak. ? 1 Quote
Super User FishTank Posted May 28, 2021 Super User Posted May 28, 2021 I use both Tatsu and Invizx and both are great lines. 12lb Invizx is, to me, the best balance of price and quality but Tatsu is the best overall line. Invizx usually lasts a season or two but I have had Tatsu last on one my mine reels for about 4 years and the only reason I changed it was because the line was getting low. Quote
txchaser Posted May 28, 2021 Posted May 28, 2021 If you are going to buy tatsu, do it on amazon. It's the only fishing stuff I buy there, but it's a monster discount. 2 Quote

Nice to hear about how long it's lasting for you. I always hear about people respooling fluro every couple of months. I do mine once a year and haven't ran into any problems so far! 4 hours ago, jbsoonerfan said: Invizx is better than red label and cheaper than Tatsu. I've been thinking about Invizx also. Global Moderator Mike L Posted May 28, 2021 Global Moderator Posted May 28, 2021 InVisX and Sniper are 2 premium lines that can be used for most all presentations, just a small difference between the two. I suggest you try either one of those first. Once you spool Tatsu you won’t want anything else. You get what you pay for Mike 3 Quote

I had ordered a 1000 yard spool and it was not level wound and I was convinced it was not the real thing but after after contacting both Amazon and Seaguar, it is genuine. It just looked like a mess when I got it compared to the 200 yard filler spool. Amazon refunded me anyway and sent me a new spool. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted May 28, 2021 Super User Posted May 28, 2021 I only replace Tatsu "as needed". The line is highly resistant to abrasion. 1 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted May 28, 2021 Super User Posted May 28, 2021 I used Sunline Shooter 12 lb since the mid 90’s excellent line equal to Seagaur Tatsu 12 lb. Respooled this year with Tatsu to give it another try because Shooter prices are equal yard per yard and today’s Tatsu has less memory. Premium FC line will last as long as you want it to, abrasion and stretch deformation is the only stresses that affect it. Check the line near the lure for nicks flat shinny spots and re tie. Use a good line lubricant to control memory issue. Tom 2 Quote

Have you had this problem or does it all seem legit? I would look at the seller. I've bought from enough sellers on ebay and a lot of them sell on Amazon too, so I stick to those names generally. As to the original question on hand, most decent fluorocarbons will last multiple seasons, not just Tatsu. I've had Berkley Trilene flurocoarbon on one reel going into season 3 now and it still performs well. I didn't even apply KVD until after the season's first outing! This year I have tried Daiwa J-Fluoro Samurai in 16# and 12# and so far I really like it. It's slightly more expensive than Invizx, but my initial impression is that it's worth it so far. Obviously it's fairly new so my end of season thoughts will be important, but it seems to cast better than 12# Shooter and 12# Invizx that was spooled at the same time, although all of those lines are solid. Johnbt Posted May 28, 2021 Posted May 28, 2021 "I've heard seaguar on amazon isn't legit seaguar. Have you had this problem or does it all seem legit?" I bought two 1,000 yard spools of Tatsu - 15 and 20 - and they are real. I also signed up for an Amazon Prime/Chase credit card and got a $100 credit. Quote
txchaser Posted May 29, 2021 Posted May 29, 2021 re Seaguar on amazon being legit - I trust 'ships from and sold by amazon' and poor fish outdoors (another seller there with solid ratings). It's definitely flouro (burn test), and it feels like the rest of my Tatsu. Oh yeah I buy blue label leader there too. I was a little worried about it based on some chatter here an elsewhere but amazon is solid about taking stuff back that isn't right. I'd really rather buy it from the local guys or TW but ...$229 (1000 yard, 15lb) plus shipping at TW and $159 at amazon... I'll pay a little more but at some point it is grossly more expensive and takes longer to get, I'm out. The price gap is the same on invisx. re: invisx - I used the 20lb quite a bit on a heavy crankbait application. It's still spooled and -for that application- tatsu isn't better enough to warrant taking the invisx off and respooling. It gets the job done, and my buddy uses it for everything. But IMO it is even more stretchy than tatsu and it wouldn't be my first pick for bottom contact. It has not failed me on two very large fish. No matter what you do, get KVD or some other line conditioner. And to your original question about how long it lasts - the one nagging thing that bothers me about flouro is every little bit I snip off is pretty much going to never degrade. It's a bit of a train wreck in terms of pollution so I'm really careful to pack out any snippets. On the upside, it lasts forever because it seems impervious to UV or water. I'm only two seasons in but I don't see any degradation yet. 1 Quote

I have ordered things that were supposedly sold by Amazon only to find I bought something from China before, and never received anything. There was literally no way to know it was from China when I ordered it, it looked like it was from Amazon. Quote
Tail Slap Posted May 30, 2021 Posted May 30, 2021 As an example https://www.amazon.com/Seaguar-25-Yards-Fluorocarbon-Leader-40-Pounds/dp/B0009V2O18 It has a number of indicators. Its prime authorized meaning free 2 day delivery for prime members. This is always a very good sign as coming from a distribution center near you. It shows sold and shipped by Amazon. At least to my address in VA has a delivery date of June 2 with today being May 30 @ 11:52pm. Little to no chance that is fake Seguar any more than what you would get from any tackle shop or big box store in person or online. Quote
Super User Boomstick Posted May 30, 2021 Super User Posted May 30, 2021 @Tail Slap I have bought the exact same line before and it's legit. However the items that ended up coming from China had all the same indicators. It seems that they were out and they had someone from China ship it on their behalf instead. I got a notice that it was shipped but never got a tracking number or received the item, and the estimated delivery date kept moving forward so it took me 2-3 months before I could get my money back. I haven't got a lot of fake fishing related items, but I'm very wary of buying on Amazon ever since 1 Quote

It handles much better then RedLabel, but the abrasion resistance isnt better then that of RedLabel IMO. Ill change my spools about 2 times a year on average, either because I want a fuller spool or the line toward the end of the cast has too much memory. On reels you dont use as much you can get by with 1 change per year or season depending how long you fish. Quote
Diggy Posted May 30, 2021 Posted May 30, 2021 Academy has the best price on Tatsu that I have seen, when in stock. 29.99 on 10lb - 39.99 on 25lb Quote
Tail Slap Posted May 30, 2021 Posted May 30, 2021 @Boomstick I understand. That would make me leery as well. Never heard of that happening. Not good. Quote
Big Swimbait Posted May 31, 2021 Posted May 31, 2021 I am 100% braid to leader so a spool of Tatsu lasts a very long time, making the up-front cost not so bad. Quote

desmobob Posted May 31, 2021 Posted May 31, 2021 I use Seaguar lines as leaders on my braid main line. I was a big fan of InvisX but noticed that the zebra mussels were really shredding up curls near the working end. I switched to AbrazX and noticed significant improvement. When using only 6-10 feet of fluoro, is there any reason to switch from AbrazX to Tatsu? Quote

No, but the Gold Label leader line is tougher. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Seaguar_Gold_Label_Fluorocarbon_Leader_Line_25yd/descpage-SEAG.html 1 Quote
