Confused on rod and lure weight for T-rig

As the title states I'm a little confused on rod and lure weight. I might be over thinking it but not sure. So I currently have an E6X 843 MBR that I use as a bottom contact rod. I was looking to upgrade it, but most the JWR rods I have seen don't go past 3/4 ounce. I weighted the 1/4 ounce tungsten weight, hook, and lure I normally throw for t-rigs and its right at 3/4 ounce. Am I throwing too heavy of a t-rig? Or am I looking at the wrong type of rod for this application?

I have a GLX 894 and it will handle above that a little ways, I have heard of people going up to 1oz or a little bit over that even on the jwr before. I have thrown a 3/4 oz football jig plus a trailer and the rod didn’t feel overloaded. I struggled with the ratings being so low myself before also on the jwr ratings, I am sure you will get some better advice from someone that’s a little more knowledgeable than me on the rod ratings.

What are you looking to upgrade to?  What you are throwing maybe better suited for 4 power in Loomis' line up but not off the charts for the 843..... The 844C IMX would be the next step in power and in sensitivity.  Great rod.

Worm/Jig rod is totally about personal preferences.

 

How does it feel in my hand with the reel attached & a lure tied on. 

 

I will return it if it doesn't feel right!

I feel comfortable with it. Was just upgrading and the lure wt ratings were a little confusing. To me 3/4 oz doesn't seem like I should be throwing a heavy power rod. Might just be over thinking it.

I might end up going that route. Now whats the difference between and MBR and JWR? Is one more sensitive than the other?

If you're comfortable with the rod you have upgrading to a rod with similar ratings shouldn't cause an issue.

 

Personally I'm extremely picky about a worm/jig rod & with rod ratings all over the place it's more irritating than confusing.

 

Which brings me back to I gotta hold it to make a determination.

I will second what @Catt said. If it's not broken, why fix it? GLoomis rods will generally handle their full weight range and sometimes a little bit extra, so I imagine it's not getting overloaded at 3/4oz. I mean I've seen a lot of other forum users say that they throw 3/8oz and even 1/2oz jigs on the same rod with no complaints.

 

I generally prefer fishing a T-Rig on a M/F rod that runs a little bit on the heavier side or a MH that runs on the lighter side whenever possible. This year I got the Tatula Elite M-MH rod and that's kind of the ideal general purpose T-Rig rod. If I'm throwing in heavy cover, I'll step up as needed of course. My point is that I don't see that rod as being a problem. That said, I'd be tempted to add a 844C to the mix as well, but not as a replacement.
