Ok guys I know this came up a few times last year but thought I'd see what everyone actually did. Did anyone actually add a HumminBird SI unit on the bow?

I'll already have the 997 and am looking to switch my bow Lowrance to a HumminBird so I can network the GPS's. I understand the potential problems with a SI unit mounted on the trolling motor but I was wondering if anyone did this and how it work?

Just to clarify I'm not asking about SI and the potential problems I just want to know if it worked out if you tried it.

Thanks guys.

I'm not a HB user, so someone that is can give you the details needed. Side scanning differs greatly from down looking sonar, so I would suggest leaving your consul mounted unit where it is and net work off that unit to a split screen front down looking unit.

You are moving slowly, so the TD location shouldn't make a big difference, when side scanning.

Thanks WRB but I'm not actually looking for details about the setup. What I was hoping for are some guys that actually put the SI unit on the front. My 997 is staying where it is I'm just adding another unit.

Like I said before I know there were a few guys on here looking to put one up front. After using using it for a season I'm not sure you'd get the best read becuase of moving around but I can see a few uses for it up front.

From what I've heard in the past you would need another SI unit on the bow even if I network the 2 units to display the SI images. Not sure if that is true, but something I plan on looking into over the winter. If this is possible it'd probably be the option I'd pick.

I have a 997 on the console and a 798 on the bow. I don't use the front SI much but when I do it's great. It's awesome to fish a row of docks or blow downs and see which ones hold fish. Side imaging works best 2-6 mph but it will work at 1/2 mph it just makes everything look longer than it is. I do regret not getting 2 997s as the 798 screen is small but I'm working on that now.
