Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 25, 2021 Global Moderator Posted May 25, 2021 A did a dum-dum move this weekend. Trying to get my gear ready for the morning after being away for 30+ hours, I wasn't exactly laser focused so when one of my rods slid down a bit into the door out of the passenger seat of my truck before I closed it, didn't notice until I heard the crunch. My bladed jig rod, that I didn't even end up needed or using all weekend, got squished. It split the handle section from top to bottom but I can put pressure on it and it doesn't fold so I don't know if there's a way it can be saved possibly? One of my favorite rods so I hate to scrap it but it's 110% my fault so I guess if I have to buy a new one, then that's what I have to do. Quote
Lead Head Posted May 25, 2021 Posted May 25, 2021 You have a picture? If its below the reel seat it shouldn't be too hard to repair. You could do it yourself most likely. If its into and above the reel seat things get tougher and you will need help from the guys more knowledgeable than me. Quote

The exposed portion on the split grip below the reel. Quote
Lead Head Posted May 25, 2021 Posted May 25, 2021 Shouldn't be too hard then. I'll tell you how I fixed one like that. The more experienced guys probably have a better way, but this is what I did. I cut the blank above the break. I then cut a section of a old blank and glued that in to extend the handle back out. (From here you can remove the old grip and put on a full grip and it will look good as new, but I went with a easier path that kept the grip split.) I then glued a carbon fiber sleeve over the rod and repaired area and installed a new butt grip. Picture of extention before the carbon fiber and butt grip. I lost about 1/2 inch of handle length to perfectly match up to the carbon fiber sleeve i had. 2 Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted May 29, 2021 Posted May 29, 2021 You’ve got options. 1. cut off behind the grip and replace the whole butt section. 2. cut the butt off and insert a support 3. thread wrap and epoxy the split area 1&2 require a sacrificial piece of an old blank For a down and dirty DIY you could try tightly wrapping the area with electrical tape in place of attempting a thread wrap. You can always have a professional repair done down the road. Quote
