St. Croix Premiere Series Spinning , 7 ft., ML, Fast action.

The rod is not overly fast.

The rod doesn’t break the bank.

Rod will long be around for your kids to use.

I use hair jigs a fair amount.  Looking for a one piece rod to get as much casting distance as possible.  Thoughts?

Are you planning on using anything else on this rod or just exclusively hair jigs and what is your budget?

SC offers 8’6” MLXF 1 pc spinning rods, should work from a boat.

The issue is finding a rod with 1/8 oz in its lure recommendation, and length enough to make long enough casts.  However, length has its tradeoffs.  Too long and it gets sort of sloppy, and unless you have a lot of room, it may not be best to go too long.  From my experience I would recommend a 7 1/2  (or 7-3) foot rod which includes 1/8 oz in its lure recommendation, and preferrably with a mod fast action, although action is not the most important attribute.  Power is.  This rod would double as a good Ned rig rod.

The reason I always include matching the lure recommendation of the rod to the lure weight one wants to use is that matching will set up good loading of the rod when casting.  This will enable easier casting and longer casts since the rod will load well on the cast.

I use a Daiwa Tatula Elite AGS Spin Rod 7'6" ML Feider stick for my light hair jig needs.

Casting 1/8 oz (and lighter hair) is always a tricky deal for me.

Seems there's a bit of a trade off between casting & fighting/landing plus size fish.

However this blank gets it done and as @MickD noted,

it presents a Ned Rig rather effectively as well.

Here's a clip of it in action (1/8 oz Ned Rig Brown Bass)

I used a St.Croix TRS60MLF for hair jigs for years. Plenty of backbone and I liked the fast action.  May be a little short for making long casts, but what it lacks there, it more than makes up for in balance and sensitivity.
