Looking for a new frogging reel for this season. Willing to spend up to $300. Suggestions anywhere from $100-300 would be appreciated.

Shimano Bantam MGL is what I use and I love it. Plenty of great reels out there.

Probably a Tatula Elite Long Cast or Curado K for under $200 budget.  There is also the new Zillion but it is line capacity challenged for frog bombing if that's your thing but it will skip and distance cast them for $300 if you shop around.

For my money it's a Daiwa JDream or Megabass IP79 with a TD Zillion HLC spool.  That's $300-$500 used though and you have to track down a reel and spool.

Whatever you get, make it high speed and durable.

Certainly not the best or lightest, but have been using a revo toro 51 on my repurposed 7'6" H telescopic that I use for light musky baits and slop. Casts frogs as far as I'd care to reel in and on 65# braid. Great reel, smooth with power to spare. If I was a diehard slopper I'd go lighter.

I use a 7.whatever:1 ratio Tatula 150 and sometimes a 7.3:1 ratio Tatula CT. I don't think you need anything too specific for frogging, although a faster speed is nice but definitely not required.

Curado DC HG for my vote, nice to be able to fling those lighter frogs way back in the pockets. The Curado 200 HG works better way get back in the junk, I am not spooling my reel when bombing deep while running 65 lb braid.

Really.  Maybe the 200 is not the distance monster I thought it was.

Not saying it can't be spooled, just that I don't need to with the slightly higher capacity to accommodate the larger line size (seems to be the sweet spot for where I'm fishing). Not to mention with a little more line on the spool you maintain the line input to go along with the higher gear ratio.

300 size Shimano Tranx can be used for frogs, deep diving cranks, swimbaits, jigs, big worms using IROD IRG754F Gen 3 rod.

In that price range, I like the Lew's Custom Lite SLP Reel.  4.9 oz and 7.5:1 gear ratio.  Always had a soft spot for Lew's reels - way back in the day, Lew's came up with many of the innovations that made the modern low profile reels possible.

Engrave this ^^^^^^ in stone, write it in the sky and tattoo it on your ...... oh, never mind the tattoo. ?

The TranX reel is awesome! Yes, I have one; the 300A. When I'm pulling in a one-pound fish and ten pounds of weeds, I thank @A-Jay for beating me over the head and forcing me to buy one. (Just kidding ?). I use 65 lb. braid and have no problems. I have problems with braid on smaller reels, but not the TranX.

Then I can turn around and re-spool with Big Game and fish with Bomber 16a or 17a lures, or Mepps Giant Killers, or swimbaits, and do just fine.

I guess which reel you use successfully for frogging (or punching) depends in large part on which weeds you have to contend with ..... and whether you're a shorecaster or not. I am.        jj

I tend to abuse my frogging setup. I’m using a Bass Pro, Pro Qualifier 2, 7.2:1 reel on a Berkley Lightening Rod Shock 7’ MH rod. It’s going on it’s 5th season and still going strong!

I also like me some lew's reels.  I have the custom lite as well.  I don't use it on my frog rod as I get better distance out of my hypermags and tournament pros.  the hypermag in 8.3:1 is my first choice, tournament pro second choice, custom lite 3rd.  Lew's reels just fit my small hands better than any other manufacturer which is a big deal to me when I want to spend 2 hours walking frogs.

Also  a 2020 JDM metanium can be had for under $300 which makes and super awesome frogging reel.  I have only had a chance to use it once since I got it, but I was extremely impressed.  longest casting reel I have for sure.  Frogging is the only time I care that much about being able to cast a mile.

Every rod and reel I have is under $300 final price.  That is where I draw the line on everything.  There are tons of great options in the 200-300 range.
