Csc1331 Posted May 22, 2021 Posted May 22, 2021 I weighed this one on a really old spring scale (non digital) and under the gill slit but the fish was kind of at an angle when hanging there weighing it. Scale read just under 8lb mark. It may be just me wanting it too be heavier lol but does 8lbs seem right? Also, do I get a more accurate weight if it’s whole body is hanging off the hook of the scale like hooking it’s lip instead? https://share.icloud.com/photos/0OxFZ4T1ptJJ3q3ZGzGvHTNsQ 2 Quote
Big Hands Posted May 22, 2021 Posted May 22, 2021 I'd say that is at least pretty close. If you're hoping it was actually a ten pounder, I would say not IMHO. Nice catch though regardless of what it actually weighs. Quote
papajoe222 Posted May 22, 2021 Posted May 22, 2021 You could have weighed it from its butt hole (please don’t) and it would still weigh the same. Angle it hangs from has nothing to do with it. Very nice fish. Your PB? 3 3 Quote
Super User Catt Posted May 22, 2021 Super User Posted May 22, 2021 Scales may be off but not by pounds Hawg status for sure ? 1 Quote
gunsinger Posted May 22, 2021 Posted May 22, 2021 Very nice in any case. But, angle of hang doesn’t change the law of gravity. 1 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted May 22, 2021 Super User Posted May 22, 2021 You could hang it upside-down while standing on your head and it'd still weigh the same. Quote

Super User MickD Posted May 22, 2021 Super User Posted May 22, 2021 Go to a grocery store that has a meat section, buy a gallon of water, take the water to the meat section and have the meat person weigh it on his meat scale. Write down what he says it weighs and then weigh it with your scale. Compare. The water will weigh a little over 8 pounds. 1 Quote
Super User BrianMDTX Posted May 22, 2021 Super User Posted May 22, 2021 That’s a great bass! Congrats! Quote
BigAngus752 Posted May 22, 2021 Posted May 22, 2021 Any "measure" is a random, subjective human design. Weight (or any other dimension), time, etc. is a construct of another person's thought. Why do you have to obey some ancient guy's arbitrary restrictions on your life? If you want it to be ten pounds, just declare the size of that particular fish to be ten pounds. Or make up your own unit of measurment. You can say that bass is 1 million Cameroniliters. This is what I explain to my boss when I'm late to work. I'm not late. He arrived at JoeO'clock while I don't have to be there until PatrickO'clock. Fantastic fish, by the way. Nicely done. 1 1 Quote

Length is a more precise and universally accurate measurement than weight. 18 inches is 18 inches on my ruler and your ruler. Whereas 3 pounds, 4 ounces on my scale may be 3 pounds, 8 ounces on yours. Scales require calibration unless everyone is using the same one, like at a tournament weigh in. Measuring boards do not need to be calibrated. Quote
CrankFate Posted May 22, 2021 Posted May 22, 2021 The scale could be wrong. Get a new one. It doesn’t matter, that’s still a nice fish. Quote
Super User GreenPig Posted May 22, 2021 Super User Posted May 22, 2021 Nice fish. Don't know if it's 8 but it'll definitely make two meals if prepared with fries, hush puppy's, and coleslaw.? 3 Quote
Nelson Wormefeller Posted May 22, 2021 Posted May 22, 2021 Bring scale to supermarket, weigh some meat, compare scale to actual weight. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 25, 2021 Global Moderator Posted May 25, 2021 Looks like it could be in that range to me at the top end. I wouldn't have guessed any higher just seeing the picture though. Quote
