If you had a choice of buying a Shimano SKX XT/ SLX rod combo for $180 or a Shimano Scorpion MGL/ Daiwa Aird-X rod for $210 which would you choose and why? Let’s keep it strictly betttgexabove mentioned combos please ?.

   As long as the rod did what you wanted, I'd take the one with the better reel. Reels have lots of precision  parts, close tolerances and sophisticated alloys. More money usually means a better reel, and a better reel gets you greater satisfaction.

   Just my way of looking at it.                    jj

What is your intended use? Soft plastics......go with the more sensitive rod

hard baits (jigs not included).....go with the better reel.
