I'm trying to figure out which SC Victory to purchase. I'm looking for a bottom contact rod that I can throw 1/2 to 3/4 oz baits on. Not sure whether to get the 7'3" Med Hvy/Fast or the 7'3" Hvy/X-Fast Action. Which one would you recommend?

Depends totally on how much cover and irregularity your bottom has. If very little, get the MH/F. But if you're gonna do any hookin'-and-haulin',  get the H/F.            jj

No experience with SC Victory casting rods. I did get the VS610MLXF spinning rod based on everyone claiming SC rods are higher power then rated. Not true w it’s Victory series spinning.  XF is extra fast in most. Brands that = stiffer top 12” of the rod, Victory = softer top 12”. Confused

...yep.

Victory series are top quality workmanship, no issue there.

PS, exchanging MLXF for MF.

Would the H/F still work good for sparse cover? Some parts of the lake have some vegetation but others are rather bare. Nothing I would call think that I would use something like a frog rod in.

Are you able to get them in your hands to feel them? The 7'3" heavy/x-fast is labeled as a "full contact finesse", whatever that means.

No one has them in stock locally. Might have to drive an hour to handle them. The names throw me off especially when you look at the ratings for each rod.

I got the 7’3” MHf about a month ago.  Looks great, feels great in my hands but i haven’t made 1 cast with it yet. Not even in my yard?
I haven’t fished since Apr 24. Work got busy and I have to take it when while it lasts

Hmmmmmm   ..........    Hard question to answer. It depends on what's below the water surface. What we see above the surface is, as they say, only the tip of the iceberg.

I'm afraid this is one only you will be able to answer.                jj

I understand. I will probably go with the MH/F as my E6X is the same and I don't have any issues.

You ever have a ML SC before?

I've been trying to get a handle on what the power of these rods is like myself. I gather the 7'3" H/XF is designed for jigs and carolina rigs and things like that, where the 7'4" H/F is the one you would use for frogs or flipping or extreme punching.

I haven't found a lot about the 7'3" MH/F. I have heard it's not quite as strong as the standard St Croix MH/F rods which are almost MH-H, although from it's lure ratings I would gather it's still close. I have also heard some of the Victory line heavier than the other SC lines as well, although that may not apply to this rod specifically.

I have the Full Contact Finesse. It's a really versatile rod in the baits it will handle. I've used it for more finesse sized ball jigs or 1/4oz swing heads, to 5/8oz jigs for flipping heavy wood. It's done all of it no problems.
