Dambass Posted August 11, 2021 Posted August 11, 2021 Hotcheetos, great journal on all the lakes/reservoirs you have fished at. I found Peck Road park because of you. I'm a beginner when it comes to bass fishing and have been going to Puddingstone as well...big skunk! Iv been to Peck Road once and saw a lot of bass jumping so tried topwater then Trig, then drop shot...nothing. maybe I'm in the wrong area I don't know. The lake does not appear to be pressured and maybe I need to just find a good spot...any advise Quote

I headed out early and got to this reservoir: San Gabriel Reservoir It was pretty much completely dry (see picture). You can't really tell very well, but it is freaking deep, and it's a good hike to get to the highwater mark, let alone the extra way down to actual water. There were a lot of fish in there, I was able to pull out my binoculars out and watch the cruising carp (very big) and bass (also big). A lot op blow ups on the water. I headed back down and went to Peck Road Water Conservation Park: Peck Road Park It was starting to get a little later in the morning, but I headed out to the water anyway. pretty much headed towards the water as soon as I could from the parking lot, and second cast in, I get a bite. Good fish, as it's pulling line so hard that I actually had to adjust drag and really muscle the rod. She's a good one, between 4.5-5 pounds (pictured), caught on the weightless stick bait. I continue to fish the same area, as it's shaded and while I'm in the sun, I can feel my feet actually burning up in the heat (car read 95 on the drive home) and blazing sun. I catch 5 total, 2 more on the stick bait (1.5-2ish pounds), a couple of runts on the trick worm(<1 pound). No bites on the creature or beaver, only strikes on drop shot, and a lot of strikes and actual carries at the curly tail worm (small enough that they couldn't swallow the worm and get to the hook). Nothing on the popper or the fluke. I picked up a ton of trash and tried to deal with some line twist on the crank/fluke setup (to no avail). The juvenile bass (probably the ones I caught earlier) went cruising around and were causing a ruckus, and that's about the time I headed out. Picture of fish. Beautiful scenery and nice bass 1 Quote
NeroXyn Posted August 14, 2021 Posted August 14, 2021 Magic Johnson Park, LA It's been a while since I posted an update for this pond (June-ish). Pond Profile: - It is a size of 5 basketball courts, not sure the exact acre. - the deepest depth seems to reach 8 ft., which the shoreline angled mostly 30 degree delevation. - The shores are made of stacked-stones, so there are gaps between the stack and I managed to snag 3 of my squarebills regardless how good they are being snag less on grass and timbers. - Visibility is random, ranging from 8"-2 ft. to 3-5 ft.; Stained green, algae'd. Memo: Been fishing 90% of the time using squarebills. I used to work on BX Brat 03 Silver (dives to 3 ft.) since the grass was still up high during early summer. Ever since I fished there first time, none of other fishermen seems to fish any types of crankbait. Majority of urban people (at least in LA) seems to like dropshot, ned rigs, anything that is chill, contrary to my huge preference in power fishing, although I saw some spinnerbaits, too. I tried also BX big brat 06 Pearl Shiner, which is a silent bait. It still catches as consistently as any other 1.5 squarebills, but the drag on that bait is way too strong compared to KVD 2.5. Very recently, I figured fish aren't eating much (both during early morning and mid-afternoon) when using silent squarebills, so I experimented with R2S Biggie Poppa Abalone Shad, and speed-crank it just like what TacticalBassin does with their crankbaits - it worked wonderfully. This is also when I noticed regardless the 3-4 ft. visibility in the morning or 0-2 ft. visibility in the afternoon, fish still wants natural color better (chrome-ish in the afternoon, chrome-ghost in the morning). It proved my hypothesis that: (1) if a pond is pressured enough, bold color cranks aren't as effective especially the bold-colored rattling baits. (2) Rattling baits work great when using natural color all the time, because, in a sense, you can surprise fish that way while the rattle is anticipated from 4 ft. radius. To be honest, the only bold color I've tried are white-based (i.e. Sexy Shad, Chartreuse Sexy Shad). I am looking forward trying chartreuse-based color such as black back sexy shad, hopefully it won't disattract fish from far or at all. 1 Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted August 14, 2021 Super User Posted August 14, 2021 WTG. Been years since I fished M.J. only fished it once. I see you fish Alondra, I use to fish there almost daily, as I lived less than 10 mins. from there. Was there a couple of weeks ago, place is dirty, and some of the guys that fish there now, don't follow any guidelines, i.e. they start casting within 10 feet of me.. Anyway, good to see you got a couple of nice bass. 1 Quote

I have been wanting to go to different bodies of water because I don't do very well at puddingstone, even though I live so close by. I just cant put together a pattern, and I generally only fish a few hours. So I try to go to a body of water that I've caught fish in before: San Dimas Reservoir. It's freaking dry. Bummer. I get back and decide to do some things that I've been meaning to do. First on the list is go to C&M tackle in San Dimas. I get there just before opening and just organize my tackle bag a bit. The lady that's working there is super nice, and I chat with her about how her business is actually doing very very well. She doesn't have what I'm looking for (a Kigan XLA hook keeper), but I actually buy some very nicely priced Fuji ez-keepers. The other thing on my list was cycling related, but the shop opened late. Nice looking place. Where do you even park your car, though? I looked onto Google Maps Satellites but I don't see a viable parking spot. Quote
