ryguy1313 Posted May 20, 2021 Posted May 20, 2021 Overall thoughts on the Abu Garcia Revo Premier Gen 4 casting reel? Picked one up on Christmas, it was half off at Bass pro (too good to pass up) Gonna pair the reel with a 7' MH fast action rod. Plan on using primarily smaller jerkbaits and cranks with it (3/8oz to 1/2oz). Do you all think the reel will handle these well without too much difficulty? Any recommendation on what line to spool it with? 1 Quote
Fishin Dad Posted May 20, 2021 Posted May 20, 2021 Hey ryguy, I picked up a couple for $99 early last year. Used them enough last year to have an opinion. I really like them. I am not sure I would have paid $300, but for $150, it is a solid reel. They are smooth, cast a mile, and seem solid. They are a little more temperamental, but with a little adjusting, they are a great reel for distance casting. I have mostly Daiwa, a few Lews, and a couple of these Abu's. The reel will handle those weights easily. As far as line, you would have to be more specific on where, what, and how you are fishing. 1 Quote
ryguy1313 Posted May 21, 2021 Author Posted May 21, 2021 I will be mainly using Rapala shadow raps, and DT-6s. Maybe an occasional Texas rig. Probably wont be throwing anything heavier than 1/2oz on this setup, but wont go under 1/4oz Quote
MiceNReets Posted May 22, 2021 Posted May 22, 2021 I had one. I hated it. The brakes are extremely finicky and would need to constantly be adjusted. I’d get 2-3 great casts and spend 10-15 castings re-adjusting the brakes. Maybe I had a lemon. Maybe not. ??♂️. But it was not a joy to use. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted May 22, 2021 Super User Posted May 22, 2021 Don't now anything about the reel, but if it can't handle those weight lures, then something is definitely wrong with the reel. For line, try 11# Sunline Defier Armiilo or 10# Sunline Sniper or 10# Izorline Platinum or XXX. I'm sure you will get tons of other options. Lots of good lines available. Quote

Im assuming you had a lemon, i've had the opposite experience with this reel. A good "set and forget reel." I rarely have to do any adjusting Quote

Westcoast Posted June 26, 2021 Posted June 26, 2021 I’ve had no problems with mine. Should cast those Jerkbait a just fine. I’d spoil it up with 10lb sunline fc for that. It has a pretty big capacity so I keep mine filled up with 14-16lb to fish jigs etc. Or filled up with mono and use it on a rod for steelhead and salmon. Quote
