Moonstoneman Posted November 7, 2021 Posted November 7, 2021 I use WP at dusk with great success. HOWEVER, probably 1 out of 2 fish get away, Does anyone change the size or quality of hook? I don't lose fish nearly as much with other lures. So, do you also have this problem? Quote

PotatoLake Posted November 8, 2021 Posted November 8, 2021 Gravel flats in skinny water here in Mo. You won't catch a ton, but you'll crack a few. Some dude just won a bassmaster open tournament at Grand Lake using a WP on flats, so they for sure catch fish. I've never stepped foot in MA, so I can't comment on what the right scenario is for you. I've caught fish with all different light conditions and water temps though. Quote

I change mine to short shank EWG Gamakatsu that are a little lighter than the stock hooks. Makes the bait ride higher and the short shanks don't allow the bait to flop around as much when a fish shakes to help keep them pinned. Quote

I read most bass are lost on treble hooks bc the fish can shake and "jam" the treble hook, making it easier for them to wrench themselves free. Roland Martin suggested adding a split ring on each treble hook on a devil's horse to prevent it from happening. Quote

A lot of the issue with the WP is similar to issues with big swimbaits, it's a heavy bait so when a fish starts thrashing it's a lot of weight whipping back and forth, which can wallow out the hook hole and allow the fish to work free. Super User king fisher Posted November 9, 2021 Super User Posted November 9, 2021 I tie one on, throw it out, and reel it in. If it catches a bass it is the right time of day. 1 Quote
