Dobyns Sierra SSM 734C

I just purchased this rod from Sportsmans Outfitters tonight. This is the first time I've ordered a rod sight unseen without having ever fished it. It's my first Dobyns. I thought it looked like a really good stick for the money. I need to know what they are like. For guys who fish them are they well balanced and light ? Are they sensitive ? Are they strong? Thanks in advance.

It’s the cat’s meow. Very sensitive and well balanced. I have Arthur-Itis in my wrists so fishing heavy action rods normally isn’t something I can do all day , but I can do it with the Sierra 735c without pain. I think you’re going to love it.

Well the Sierra 734C is about the most versatile model you can have.  Like all Sierras, the action is a bit slower than the Champion series. I bought this exact model for my son in law.  It’s a great over all rod.

Like was already said the Sierra 734c is a very versatile rod with closer to a mod fast tip than a true fast tip. They aren't the lightest rods in the world, but are very well balanced so you don't notice any extra weight while fishing with them. I use mine mainly for chatter baits and spinner bait, and its is about perfect for them in my opinion.

Yeah, I have three Sierra 734c rods and I'd put that rod up against several other more expensive rods I own. It's very versatile, lightweight, and strong. You can't go wrong.

It's a great rod.  Like some people have said it has a little faster tip than a normal heavy action rod.  I have the exact rod and use it for spinnerbaits and several other things.  It is a very versatile rod and very strong and sensitive.

does it handle 1/2oz chatterbaits with a trailer without any problem?  I've used 3/8oz on mine but never more than that.

I've never tried the Micro guide series, but the 734C is a good overall model to have. I use to have a couple of the Sierra series rods and I was happy with them.

I bought a Sierra last year and enjoyed fishing it so much that now I'm thinking of adding a fury from their lineup. They are solid rods some of the best in the business imho.

I have that exact rod, and like others have said, it's a VERY versatile rod. Awesome, awesome rod.

 

I own multiple Expride's, handful of Kistler Helium's/KLX's, Megabass Orochi/Levante's, Poison Adrena, ALX Zolo etc, and this Sierra is still one of my favorite rods. Obviously it isn't as light as some of the others, or as sensitive, but it just feels right and is super fun to fish with. You won't be disappointed.

I have the 7 foot version.  
 

I don’t have a lot of rods to throw every specific bait.    So I’ll occasionally paint way outside the lines.   One time headed for a skunk I decided to rig up a janky punch rig and tossed it into the thickest stuff.  A big bass grabbed it and I was “ oh no! Now what?”  I just started cranking and pumping.  That bass came out.  Wrong rod, right time.   It’s a great multi-task rod. 
 

it’s my heaviest rig, but I have a wrist issue that can’t tolerate much more.  It is what it is.

Absolutely. I throw both 3/8oz and 1/2oz chatterbaits on mine, and have never felt like it was over stressing the rod.

Got the rod today. Fit and finish are perfect. Rod is light and balances right in front of the reel seat with a Lews 4.9 oz custom lite.Definately more of a medium heavy than a heavy. Tip is nice and loads up well for long casts.later in the week I will take it fishing.
