Hey everybody, a few years ago a couple guys from a local bass fishing group came to my university to give a talk, answer any questions we might have, and give away some baits for our team. One of the baits I grabbed was this curly tailed worm (pic included) that they made in a local tackle shop that one of the members works at. I only have one left but they have been absolutely killer in my area so I'm looking for something similar (as it's nearly an hour drive for me to get there, and I got them a couple years ago so who knows if they're still being made). I'd say it's about 6" and also has a strong garlic scent, though I'll take anything that's close.

Thanks!

I don't know about the scent but, that looks pretty much like a standard Culprit worm to my old eyes.

I've seen numerous ribbon tail worms with a similar profile.  7" Berkley power worms are available nearly everywhere,  in lots of different colors.  As mentioned in a previous post, that worm might be some sort of Culprit clone.   Culprits are readily available.  Really, almost all soft plastic bait companies make a ribbon tail worm.

Could be a Culprit, but I'm inclined to think "Rattlesnake, in Tequila Sunrise", if still available.

I'd try to match that one with a red shad Culprit

I couldn't say, but I like the thicker nose on that worm compared to a Culprit. Mann's made a very similar bait a while back, but I don't think it's in production anymore.  13 Fishing Big Squirm Ribbon Tail Worm looks about as close as I have.  Hit whatever you choose with JJ's, or Spike-It garlic dye and go for it.

This is your answer.  Get yourself some JJ's clear and you're ready to roll

That's a ribbon tail worm.  There are many on the market.  If you want garlic scent then Gambler makes a good worm.  Used to be my favorite back in the late 90s as a kid.

I used the Gambler Ace stick baits this past weekend and you arent lying about the garlic. I had my step dad smell and pulled back and went Whoa that smells someone used too much garlic!! They are potent but they work!

Bass aren't Italian. They don't have to have garlic. That Culprit or Zoom ribbon tail worm is one of the cheapest bang for buck name brand lures there are.

That was going to be my guess as well.

Never underestimate the anglers ability to be absolutely convinced that a certain distinctive sent, that probably only humans can smell, is the key to his hot bite.

I was convinced the Berkley Chigger Craw small was the best because it smells like a seafood restaurant dumpster. But now I like the SK Rage line for jig trailers and they supposedly smell like coffee. I can't smell it. But they taste like salt when I bite a little off. I couldn't bring myself to bite off the Chigger Craw. ?

It's the KVD line is the ones that smell like coffee. Maybe the rage tail stuff does too.  Actually the KVD stuff smells just like the Monster Java energy drinks.  The KVD baits are fantastic btw and readily available at places like Walmart.  That's how I got into them.  I had to restock on baits when on vacation fishing trips and Walmart was the only tackle store. They're the opposite of the rage baits.  They don't have built in flappers and rely on user input for action but have good designs and a soft compound that comes alive.  I like the beaver on a shaky head.  The finesse worm the same way and the jerkbait is deadly weightless and has a great wiggle and tail wag on the fall.  If I'm going slow and going to stick a soft bait in a fish's face then the KVD baits have fallen into my confidence bait wheelhouse.

The SK Rage line just says they smell. LOL. I'm going through so many I need to start buying in bulk.

I can't stand the smell of powerbait, and even worse I can't catch anything with it

Strike King plastics are my go-to along with zoom, z-man, and yamamotos

One reason I was so high on the Chigger Craw is it seemed like fish would swim all over the lake and not drop it. I caught a lot on it, but it's not very sturdy. The SK products last longer.

That color is called tequila sunrise and the closest bait I know of is the Culprit worm. Just check out some websites and look for that color in 6".

Let me drop one of the most important things I have ever learned bass fishing. If you chew tobacco put in in your mouth BEFORE APPLYING KICK-N-BASS AND REARRANGING YOUR JIG TRAILER!

Notice the capitalized, bold, and underlined part. I cannot stress enough the importance of the correct sequence. Not sure why they think it tastes good but it isn't very fun trying to rinse your mouth out at 5am. AS bad as it was though I think I would do it again before I drank anothe Mountain Dew Zero.
