This is a 2" Zara pooch I bought off eBay with the intent of creating a double spook rig.  I'd like to replace the front hook before I tie it to another lure but I'm not sure how.  I could add tiny split rings and then new hooks.  Would that kill the action?

Not positive about the hook replacement as it appears that it is not screwed into the body, if it is unscrew, open the keeper and replace hook. I have used a double fluke rig but never heard of a spook rig. Please explain.

I’m not sure how an extra split ring would kill the action on a Zara Spook, but adding a split ring would be my solution.

I would cut the hooks off and add split rings.

x3 on adding split rings.

As effective as the old Heddon lures are, you'd think they would modernize their baits to be a little more friendly to upgrading hooks/hardware. There's so many other high quality Spook style baits out there now with much better hardware designs.

They did, it's called the Super Spook.  For the old style spooks, I always add a split ring and a VMC Vanadium Inline hook.

It's been a while since I've bought a Heddon :laughing1:

Personally, I've been throwing the Sammy and the Showerblow's whenever I want a spook style bait. Although I still have some old Heddon spooks that ride in my box and get their time still that I have modified.
