Archknyght Posted May 18, 2021 Posted May 18, 2021 Hey everyone, I'm thinking of crafting a fishing net using monofilament fishing nets. Ideally, I am going for a very thin diameter line, a 2 or 3 lbs test fishing line about 2000 yds(longer the better) should do the trick. But I've run into a problem, I just cannot find any products online with that specification. I was hoping someone might point me in the right direction for this fishing line or anything similar. Thanks! Quote
Super User bulldog1935 Posted May 18, 2021 Super User Posted May 18, 2021 if you catch and release, all those knots and hard line aren't good to the fish. Your net will scratch through their protective slime coating, through their scales, and into their skin to cause infection. You can buy nice replacement bags, rubber, or knotless and rubber coated, that will fit just about any net frame. then if you want to get salty with twine, work on your net bag lacing or rope-end seizing If you're making a wall decoration, knock your lights out, as they say. but I'd still use good sailmaking twine rather than fishing line. ahoy. 1 Quote

Thanks! One can certainly make a net out of mono nylon, but first, It's a lot of work, and requires quite a bit of skill, and second, 3 lb test isn't going to be nearly strong enough. nylon mesh of all sizes and dimensions are readily available. Why are we trying to make it? Quote
Super User FishTank Posted May 18, 2021 Super User Posted May 18, 2021 Unless you have lot of time and also you might injure the fish with mono, I would pass and just buy a net. It might actually be cheaper. Quote
