I’m just out there to have fun and relax, so any thing from 1lb on up will make my day? i hear ya , today i am going lazy fishing at the river and will listen to music and if i catch cool if not well at least i was out of the house. I am going to put a kingtail red worm on a weighted underspin and throw it in the eddies below the dam and watch the bobber go around and around in the eddie. Quote
Super User LrgmouthShad Posted May 24, 2021 Super User Posted May 24, 2021 One of my home ponds. The one in my profile pic. Quality is so good in that pond, but I struggle all the time to catch em. Quote
5/0 Posted May 24, 2021 Posted May 24, 2021 CA Delta. Next to never do well there. Have had some success out of Ladds, but the main Delta has been very disappointing. Quote
Junk Fisherman Posted May 25, 2021 Posted May 25, 2021 There's a couple places I've decided to never go to again. A river that is close that is a popular tournament spot and a big lake in southern Illinois (Rend). If my club schedules a tournament on a body of water I don't like, I don't go. Quote
jgordon Posted May 25, 2021 Posted May 25, 2021 Butler State Fishing lake here in Kansas is a place everyone seems to rave about and I cant stand fishing it. I would rather just stay home vs fish it. Quote
Str8BraidPowa Posted May 26, 2021 Posted May 26, 2021 The Chickahominy lake,I generally catch fish and there are some guys who regularly catch DD bass in it. The amount of grass in this lake gets super old to deal with. Once you get to July it's pretty much only top water fishing. I love frog fishing but I have also developed a love for throwing a jig, which is useless unless you like salad? Quote
Super User MassYak85 Posted May 29, 2021 Super User Posted May 29, 2021 I can't say I hate it but there's a lake in MA that's more of a trout lake, supposed to have some decent smallies. I might go there once a year to scratch my curiosity but I never do well there. Lots of rocks and boulders so bottom fishing can be a struggle. But it's tucked in a state park and has extremely clear water, it's beautiful to be on but as a fishery....meh. Quote
Super User scaleface Posted May 30, 2021 Super User Posted May 30, 2021 Any of the Ozark lakes . I always catch fish , even a few keepers but I have never slayed them . I plan on making a return trip this fall . Maybe Pomme De Terre . Havent visited there yet . Quote
Jleebesaw Posted June 6, 2021 Posted June 6, 2021 Not really. I do have a love hate relationship with black lake ny. It's close to my house and i fish it a lot. It has a lot of rental camps on it, it's a well know lake that gets people from all over the northeast showing up, it has a nice public launch, and it has a lot of bass and crappie. That combination makes for some great days and some terrible days. LOTS of traffic. I avoid it on holiday weekends! Quote

On a good day you get 2 bite cycles on most days none. Casitas is a very good night lake but rarely opened to night fishing. I love and hate this lake, it’s like no other lake I have ever fished and it was my home lake since ‘58. Tom We call it (Lake Casitas) "Lake No-Fish", which is of course, not exactly true. It can cough up some very nice fish, and occasionally be OK, but it's been mostly hard for me. Most people I know prefer either Castaic or Casitas, but rarely do people like or fish well at both. The good news for me (if you want to call it good news) is that since they require a 35 day quarantine after they inspect your boat before you can fish the lake, you can bet that I am not going to drag my boat 60 miles both ways so they can inspect it and then wait another 35 days before I can fish there, and then wait another 10 days before I can fish the lake that is a couple miles from my driveway just to fish there. In that respect, Lake Casitas is certainly dead to me for the time being. I would like to go check it out again sometime, but with those restrictions, I am not even close to being tempted. 1 Quote
CrankFate Posted June 9, 2021 Posted June 9, 2021 Fished it the other day. Saw a carp that thought looked like an arapaima and a pod of shiners that were close to the size of bass. Skunked. Quote
Super User Ratherbfishing Posted June 10, 2021 Super User Posted June 10, 2021 My nemesis would have to be Clinton lake which, as fate would have it, also happens to be the closest lake (by a good margin). I hear of people doing well there in both size and numbers but, apparently, the things I normally do to catch bass don't often apply to this body of water. A buddy of mine who is just now turning 80 says he use to go there almost every day (he worked part-time at the Marina) and would catch numbers of nice fish but now he spits on the ground after he utters the word "Clinton." The lake, he says, has changed-and I believe him. I have come to calling the drive home, my "drive of shame." Addendum: I did fish near/under a bridge and near a boat ramp yesterday and managed to catch 4 bass 2 crappie and a big 8 lb channel cat. I suspect it's just trying to seduce me so I'll go there more. Using less than a quarter of a tank of gas sure beats a full tank going to my other "haunts." Quote
moguy1973 Posted June 10, 2021 Posted June 10, 2021 Lake of the Ozarks by far. I only get out there once or twice a year so that doesn't help, but I haven't ever had a great day on that lake. A few bass here and there, but there are so many boat docks to hold bass it's hard to pick and choose which ones to hit in the limited amount of time I've spent there. That and if you are caught out on a weekend too late into the day a bass boat gets absolutely hammered by the pleasure boat traffic waves. Heard of Haulover Inlet in south Florida? LOZ makes that place look like a joy ride on a busy weekend mid day. Quote
