Super User Darth-Baiter Posted May 18, 2021 Super User Posted May 18, 2021 Lake Comanche. my Dentist swears by it. he weaves and crafts tales of hungry spotted bass and dumb small mouths. he tells me about underwater groves of trees, that nobody knows about. the lake is beautiful and it is full of emerald blue waters. fish? dont know. last time, I was skunked hard. and the winds and water teamed up to try to flip my kayak and drown me. and get this. the cover charge for my man-powered kayak is $17. I think if I had a motor it is over $20 I dont think I will ever go back, but..there is that big nagging feeling that I need to clear the air and catch ONE fish from that lake. just go, and try. one fish!! maybe if I get a willing partner to be my security blanket. hahhaha.. Lake Comanche is my White Whale. Call me Ishmael and I haven't even ventured into the Pacific Ocean on my kayak yet!!! 3 1 Quote
Super User islandbass Posted May 18, 2021 Super User Posted May 18, 2021 Nope. I have not one but two nemesis lakes. Both are known for big mama bass. One is the hallowed lake Fenwick rods is named for. I’ve seen big bass caught in it that’s been posted even on you tube and I can’t buy a strike. Never caught a fish from it. The other I’ve caught other species but never a bass. Going on 17 years, lol. Granted I might visit both lakes maybe 5 times per season if at all, so the 17 year drought is a bit inflated. It still hurts, lol. I already targeted that non fenwick lake once this season and nothing. I go to another lake ten minutes away and catch two bass within 10 minutes. Come on, man ??? Call me Ismael II, lol. 2 1 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 18, 2021 Global Moderator Posted May 18, 2021 Not really nemesis, but I have a couple that I despise. The main one is Bone Creek Lake in Southeastern Kansas. It's a 530 acre lake full of standing timber, grass, and bass. It's also one of the only lakes in the area and it's not uncommon to have 30 or more boats on the water at a time. Those boats are typically filled with some of the rudest, most inconsiderate anglers I've ever had the misfortune of dealing with. I feel bad for the poor fish I catch. Their mouths are mangled from being caught so many times and hauled around for the multiple tournaments run during the weekends and weeknights throughout the year. It can be a really good lake to fish, but I just don't have any fun going there. Quote
Super User Catt Posted May 18, 2021 Super User Posted May 18, 2021 Mine is Lacassine Wildlife Refuge (16,500 acres), a shallow water marsh (18-24") that is extremely clear with tons of various types of vegetation. The marsh is federally owned & is only open from March 15 through October 15. Opens daily at 30 minutes before sunrise till 30 minutes after sunset. After being decimated by hurricanes Katrina, Rita, & Ike wildlife & fisheries has stocked 50-60,000 Florida bass yearly. This marsh is so fickled the locals call it lack-a-sense because one has to have a lack of sense to fish it! I've fished this marsh on & off since I was 7, I'm now 69! I've been skunked on this marsh more than any place on earth, if it wasn't for the 5 DD bass I've caught there I probably wouldn't fish it. 4 Quote

I did have one major strike and a big bass pulled down hard, but I was like a deer caught in the headlights... paralyzed. I didn’t even set the hook, lol. I could have sworn I heard the bass say, “Dude. You didn’t even set the hook.” Wah, wah, wah, and this bass angler cried all the way home. 3 Quote
schplurg Posted May 18, 2021 Posted May 18, 2021 Chesbro, I hate that lake. Camanche is a bit steep for sure. "Hi can we drive around and take a look? My cousin just moved to the area." "$10" Tomorrow it's free for half an hour at a time. Ya let's turn around. Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted May 18, 2021 Global Moderator Posted May 18, 2021 Stocked Trout are my nemesis. I didn’t buy the stamp this year just because I hate them so much Quote
Ski Posted May 18, 2021 Posted May 18, 2021 The St. Johns River. Because it is tidal, HUGE, no grass or aquatic vegetation and brackish. Quote

TheBasslayer Posted May 18, 2021 Posted May 18, 2021 There is a lake around me called Austin Lake, and at least when I'm from shore, that is my nemesis lake. The park I have to fish at, Lakeview Park, is EXTREMELY pressured, and the only fish that I have caught there is a Bullhead. The Crappie I caught was in a small canal on the side of the lake. Unless you have live bait, a bass there only looks at a Jerkbait and refuses to eat a Senko. According to my friend it used to be good, and I've seen 6 pounders caught there when it was good, but it just sucks now. It may be getting better, but I'm not sure. Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted May 18, 2021 Super User Posted May 18, 2021 Yes . Theres 2 jax urban fish ponds ( total of 12 acres ) that is always hard. It is state stocked but still tough. Biggest bass I ever caught there was 3 pounds. Biggest number per trip= 6. Probably average less than 1 fish per trip though. I think part of the problem is the murky water there. What I catch fish well with in clearer waters just doesn’t work there. It gets a moderate amount of pressure also. But even with these conditions it still should be better. I am absolutely positive that fish over 10 pounds inhabit these ponds( Ive heard stories) , and had a giant break my line once . It has water to 18 feet deep in both ponds, and has an insane amount of forage. But it continues to be a mystery . Even fishing with shiners you very rarely catch a fish, and if you do they are small. I have a friend who diligently fished there for years with shiners and never caught 1 over 4 pounds. So I just cant get motivated to go back. Just too many other spots that are much better... Quote
Super User J Francho Posted May 18, 2021 Super User Posted May 18, 2021 The first time I fished this particular lake, I only had an hour or so. I caught at least 6 fish, none under 4 and the top 2 were 6-0 and 6-8. You can bet I've gone back many times to try and duplicate that success. Beginner's luck, I guess. 3 Quote
throttleplate Posted May 18, 2021 Posted May 18, 2021 the Red river running through fargo nd, snag after snag. I havnt had any luck this year but am going to change my tactics. Instead of using lures i am going to fish it lazy style using a bobber and gulp minnows. The river is only 10 minutes from the house and i will fish it when i am in my i dont care attitude and just passing time. Quote
2tall79 Posted May 18, 2021 Posted May 18, 2021 I have several.....and they all hate me back. 6 Quote
Super User fishwizzard Posted May 18, 2021 Super User Posted May 18, 2021 I hate/struggle at the large rocky reservoirs near me, Rocky Gorge and Tridelphia in MD. Most of my bass fishing is in shallow, murky ponds/marshes, so deep, rocky spots are really hard for me to adapt to. Quote
river-rat Posted May 18, 2021 Posted May 18, 2021 Mine would have to be a live Mississippi River oxbow called Old River just north of Morganza, LA. The lake level will rise once the Mississippi River gets above 15' on the Baton Rouge gauge. Once it starts to fall in the late spring-early summer it used to be one of my favorite places. I could go there and use a 2" Deep Diving Balsa B on the docks/piers and catch a lot of fish. My best 10 fish one day went over 40 lbs., but that was over 20 years ago. I usually try it every year just to see if it will still produce but most of the time I might catch one or two if I'm not skunked. Wish I knew what changed but for the life of me I can't figure it out. 1 Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted May 18, 2021 Super User Posted May 18, 2021 There's a place about 20 miles from me I've fished 3 times. It's good for one fish a trip. Last time I put in two guys were getting out and told me get there early because they disappear at 10:00. Quote
Super User Bankc Posted May 18, 2021 Super User Posted May 18, 2021 All of the lakes near me. It's always windy, until the temperatures hit 100°. The water is always muddy. There's no cover and heavy pressure (being in city limits of a large city that loves hunting and fishing). I used to think it would make me a better angler, learning how to catch fish in these tough conditions. But all it's done is made me forget how to catch fish in good conditions. Quote

I don’t know if the area of the Red is specifically good near Fargo where you are but I often hear that it’s one of the best channel catfish rivers around. I’ve seen it fished on tv shows too. 2 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted May 19, 2021 Super User Posted May 19, 2021 There is one lake I fish at where if something is going to go wrong it will happen there. I fish it maybe once a year. It holds some nice bass, but I’m not getting my hopes up when I fish it. Quote
