Super User Boomstick Posted May 18, 2021 Super User Posted May 18, 2021 I've had a few people approach me and make small talk. The worst I had one guy lose his **** at my kid for trying to launch his kayak maybe 100 feet away from where he was fishing (not like we had a ton of space). Quote

Super User geo g Posted May 18, 2021 Super User Posted May 18, 2021 I have been fishing from a boat for 40 years and have only had one incident with two airboaters taking up the entire ramp and loading supplies from their truck into the airboats while I was waiting to use the ramp. They sat there for over 30 minutes with no regard for anyone waiting. It came very close to an all out brawl and lots of name calling. Two of the biggest jerks I have ever met. It could have got ugly quickly! Quote
Squarebill79 Posted May 19, 2021 Posted May 19, 2021 I have yet to have a confrontation but Ive had some idiots and weird people interact with me. I had a guy come up to me once making small talk about fishing, seemed way too nice, all of a sudden pulls out a pamphlet and asked if I had thought about "finding Jesus". Same place another time this group 6-7 were fishing. Guy comes up and asks if I want any night crawlers and I politely decline. The whole group then leaves a bunch of trash, beer cans, and just leaves 3 containers of worms. I watch them drive away in their BMW's as Im in disbelief that anyone could blatantly litter like that and not seem to care. This is a lake with a walking path around it that gets tons of human traffic. Ive never seen anyone so blatantly leave trash like it was no big deal and the kicker is there is a huge trash can right by them. I decided instead of getting in a fight going 6 on 1 that I would just pick it up myself. 1 Quote

Listen, Laughing Boy, I really don't give two deuces about saying hello to strangers when I'm bouncing from spot to spot, but us hayseeds out here in God's country, Nassau USA, still feel compelled to acknowledge each other when passing, even if it's only a simple nod. In the end I'm fine with not interacting at all with those mirthless BassWholes! On top of everything else they are, they're also reliably rude. Way beyond the typical midtown pavement pounder. I was one for 3 years. I know the drill. 2 Quote

I said ok, then he grabbed one , stared at it for a few seconds, then turned and walked away with it ! I told him to bring it back, and he walked a little faster. I told him to bring it back NOW, and he nearly broke into a run. I decided one fish wasn’t worth the trouble and let it go ( it wouldn’t have happened that way 10 years before. ) One of the worst things anyone can do is steal a fish from a southerner , lol. 1 Quote
E-rude dude Posted May 23, 2021 Posted May 23, 2021 Chitter chatter at the ramps is ok by me. Home owners who think they own the water usually get the hand to the ear ? and a “huh, what, I can’t hear you”. Then a wave ?. If they continue on I just smile and move on. It’s not worth wasting my time over ignorant people looking for an argument.? 1 Quote
GTN-NY Posted May 23, 2021 Posted May 23, 2021 I had a cottage owner come out and tell me I was trespassing by fishing in front of his cottage. He told me he owned all the way to the center of the lake. It was ok to drive your boat through it but you can’t stop. When we started laughing it really ticked him off 2 Quote
ironbjorn Posted May 23, 2021 Posted May 23, 2021 I like to be left alone. I'm a quiet man of few words who likes solitude outside of my fiance and children. I wouldn't normally chat with strangers in every day life, let alone when I'm engaging in one of my life's passions, where I go to enjoy nature and peace. I'm not a jerk for it; I've truly been this way my whole life; always quiet, by myself, not much liking human interaction. Just yesterday I had th typical case of rude strangers while fishing a large pond from the bank. A couple of men showed up with a dog. They came within 10-15 yards of me and started throwing a ball into the water for the dog to fetch. They asked if I ever do any good here and I said sometimes and then packed up and moved down about 20-25 yards. No luck there, and they killed my other spot, so I packed up again after 20 minutes (and they were still throwing that d**n ball into the water for the dog) to move to the other side of the pond. The only way to do this was to walk by them. Now where they were is a steep brushy hill. As I was passing they told me to "throw in" right there after the dog got out because they saw fish. I said I'm after bass and after all this commotion there won't be any over here. They said that they saw bass. I said even if that's the case and I manage to catch one right away right here I won't be able to get it through this brush and up the hill. They said yes I will. At that point I'm really just aggravated and wanting to move on, so I said, thanks but I do this every day when weather permits and I know that trying to fish right here where a dog is jumping in the water, casting over brush and down a hill, is stupid, goodbye. The one boy maybe 12 and carries alot of weight just happes to start swimming in the culvert and splashing around and i seen this and was upset because his dad also bobber fishing just let him go at it like a drunken walrus. The wifes bobber was 10 to 5 feet away pending on current and wind. I decided to fish from the culvert area making long casts out in front of the culvert with a ripstop rapala and the wife told me i am close to hitting the kid with my lure on the cast and i say out loud that i am fishing and if he doesnt want to get hooked he should get out of the water where people are trying to fish. Now call me an .........hole or selfish or form your own opinion about what i did good or bad but this father whom i wanted him to hear me loud and clear finally told his kid to get out of the water. This same guy catches and keeps his fish in a 5 gallon pail and he culls the small ones after he catches bigger ones and with no oxygen in that bucket and bloody water i am not sure if the fish he puts back survive. Also the trash left behind is sad and his friend he was fishing with got a birdsnest in his spinning reel and showed me he only had about a 1/3 of line left on his reel. Well i found his birds nest right on shore as i stepped in it with my foot in the dark as it was now stuck in some dead bush. 1 Quote
CrankFate Posted May 23, 2021 Posted May 23, 2021 Seriously, I fish a lot of very well known heavily fished places. For the most part, the people are nice and just looking to catch a few fish. There are always idiots out there, but most people arent a problem. I just hate the cast a rod out into the water and sit there and wait for a bite fishing. Its not what I do, so if I'm out there casting all over the place, working my line around, to everyone else there, its me that is the problem. They dont see themselves as blocking all of the water with their rods just sitting there. I'm sure that's where the term "deadstick" came from. Quote

Well i found his birds nest right on shore as i stepped in it with my foot in the dark as it was now stuck in some dead bush. That is completely unacceptable behavior in my book. Not only is it disrespectful, he’s engaging in illegal behavior when he leaves trash behind. Until this year, culling fish like that was illegal in MN. It was updated now so technically you can cull but if they are in a bucket there’s a good chance some will not survive. Previously, once a fish was kept, it wasn’t permitted to be released later unless it was in a tournament with culling permission. I actually don’t care for this rule change because you have people like this using a bucket or stringer which results in dead fish. An aerated live well is probably ok but the rule has to be universally the same for everyone. So now you have the ethics coming into play instead of the laws, and we all know how that goes with some. 2 Quote
CrankFate Posted May 23, 2021 Posted May 23, 2021 I hate people that leave junk behind. How hard is it to put the ball of line in your pocket or the empty plastics pack back in your box to throw out later. Seriously, though, it’s not the people out fishing that’s the problem. It’s the people on the Internet. what gets me mad is the picture below -- this is a memory on my Facebook page today, form 5 years ago, during the striped bass contests. This was in the local news here. Those are illegal gill nets dropped by the fraud wannabes around here trying to cheat in the contests or just so they can post a picture with a big fish online. A whale was caught in these nets, which was rescued, when they collected all the nets, they were full of endangered atlantic sturgeons and baby makos and great whites. Disgusting. 1 Quote
Jaderose Posted May 23, 2021 Posted May 23, 2021 I guess I am spoiled. The little lake I consider my "home" lake is out in the boonies. There is a pretty limited amount of area for shore fishing and I don't fish there anyway. There are no pleasure boaters and most of the time, I'm either the only boater on the lake or know the one or 2 others that are there and we all like and respect each other and give each other space unless we're out BS'ing on the water. I've shared baits with them and them with me. I've had one or 2 incidents with landlubbers but nothing too serious. Yelling at teenagers to clean up their mess....that sort of thing. Nothing major. 1 Quote

TheBasslayer Posted May 24, 2021 Posted May 24, 2021 When I was fishing at the lake my Grandma lives near this dude took some Bass home in a bucket, and it isn’t the season to keep Bass in Michigan!
