Smells like fish Posted May 16, 2021 Posted May 16, 2021 This morning I slipped up to a hole of water in a creek and witnessed what to me was a first. I had scared a bunch a creek chubs. There was a piece of treebark in the stream and a creek chub about 5” long swam under it and was immediately attacked by a big crawdad he was perhaps 5” in length as well. He held the minnow for close to 2 minutes and I believe began feeding on the minnow until it made one last wiggle and got away. I thought it was neat and that I’d share the story! Crawdads can be real bad tails ? 3 Quote
Super User WRB Posted May 16, 2021 Super User Posted May 16, 2021 Got a peak into the underwater world. Crayfish are scavengers like catfish that also eat live fish if the opportunity presents itself. Tom 1 Quote

Reminds standing waist deep in the water when suddenly a crab grabbed my big toe and sliced it open thinking it was food . Comical sight as I went down , my foot came out of the water with a big crab locked in with it's claw ..lol now not then . 2 Quote

Tom Catfish are predators first. That's why their eyes are positions up and forward on their head. Crawdads are quite predatory as well at times. I use to keep quite a few craws for bait and the biggest issue was keeping them from eating each other. Dropping live worms into the tank reminded me of a scene from Jurassic Park. Quote
Super User WRB Posted May 17, 2021 Super User Posted May 17, 2021 Yep they bite off there companions legs and eat them, but also eat lettuce just as fast. Tom 1 Quote
