detroit1 Posted May 16, 2021 Posted May 16, 2021 I have fished for over 50 years and saw 2 gals fishing together only once. Never seen one by herself. My wife use to fish with me, got tired of whupping me, so now she'll just catch rays and read a book..? Quote
DaubsNU1 Posted May 16, 2021 Posted May 16, 2021 As a dad of two daughters, we fished a lot when they were young. They loved catching panfish behind the house in a little pond. As they grew, got in to sports and we all stopped fishing. My first wife fished a little (and kicked I disagree!), Mrs. Daubs#2 couldn’t care less about fishing...oh, she’s cool with me fishing with my brother Dad and Brother, or buddies. I think it’s the same as hunting...with so many other things to do, fishing and hunting numbers have declined. Now with the pandemic, some of that changed...but I think when things open back up...people will go back. Quote
Jaderose Posted May 16, 2021 Posted May 16, 2021 I don't think women are as susceptible to the mental illness that is being an obsessed fisher of bass! Quote
Herbert Lorenzo Posted May 16, 2021 Posted May 16, 2021 They will fish ...... as long as you make sure that she catches a nice fish ... preferably the largest one . Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 17, 2021 Global Moderator Posted May 17, 2021 My wife likes to go. My mom use to go often and still enjoys going occasionally. My oldest niece almost begs me to take her anytime I'm around. I'd guess the "Hunter/gatherer", gene is a little more ingrained in men so the urge to fish is stronger. Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted May 17, 2021 Super User Posted May 17, 2021 I havent known many women that fished much. My mom went when I was a kid and teen . Our whole family would go and saltwater surf and pier fish. She was fair at it, but her biggest contribution was managing the fish fries. My wife used to go with me some but not lately. She was good at bream fishing and fair at bass. Like @Catt , Ive got one Gdaughter that Im raising that is good at fishing , but even she hasnt gone with me lately... 3 Quote

A married women didn’t need to purchase a fishing license as long as her husband had one. In Michigan at least I’d say it was common for women to fish. We buy a husband/wife license in WI. It’s 10$ more. Which is great because my wife fished about once a year. Mostly to spend a day with me. 1 Quote
Deephaven Posted May 17, 2021 Posted May 17, 2021 My wife will out fish whomever she goes with. Doesn't do it that often, but if you tell her what exactly to do she does it unlike the rest of us that second guess and change things. Tells a story. Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted May 17, 2021 Super User Posted May 17, 2021 I've never had a significant other who really enjoyed fishing. I've heard they exist. I had a couple GF's that liked going out in a boat because it was novel to them. My mom went out a few times with me when my dad had to work and we knew there was a good bite on. But she really just did it for me. ? My wife went once with me when we were dating (she caught all the crappie as fast as she could while I baited her hook and only left me catfish). Then she never wanted to go again. I tried to turn my daughter on to it, and she was OK with catching, not so much the fishing part. And she has no interest in it anymore-she's 16 now. Well, that's OK. I really like to be alone while I fish. I'm my favorite person to fish with because I get to fish exactly how I like to. I like it when I don't even see another boat. I go fishing alone for my mental health. 1 Quote
Super User Bird Posted May 17, 2021 Super User Posted May 17, 2021 I know many gals that fish with their mates but don't know any that would be considered dedicated or that even owns a boat other than a recreational kayak. My wife fished quite a bit with me in the 80's but quickly burned out if not catching something every other cast. There is however several female fisherman on YouTube that have very good success fishing and very good success getting likes but think that they're attire has a lot to do with it. If my wife wants to run out and buy a bass boat today, that's her prerogative, she does as she pleases. Quote
Bubba 460 Posted May 17, 2021 Posted May 17, 2021 I have four daughters, three off them liked to fish. They are grown now and two of them still like to fish and do go sometimes but would not call them "avid". My oldest daughter is disabled and does not like to see anything hurt or uncomfortable. She would not hurt a bug and catches the bees in her room to be set free outside. About the only thing she dislikes are ticks and mosquitos. 1 Quote
