I am not familiar with the terms for various types of aquatic Vegetation, but a pond that I love to fish is now covered in this stuff and will be most of the summer. Does anyone know what this type of weed is called?

Looks like a member of the Pondweed family (yes, that's it's name) - there's over 100 species and I can't quite see it clearly enough (even on the larger image) to get more specific.

Cant see it very well . Resembles chara . Chara is a complicated form of algae that grows in water with a high lime content . It has a skunky odor and no root system . If you cast into it and keep bringing a lot back , even with a Texas rig  , it might be chara . Google it . Its difficult to fish . I use spinnerbaits in pockets , edges and areas where it doesnt reach the surface . If its matted up , then I use toads and frogs . The Stanley Ribbet is my favorite .

Thanks everyone for your input. It's been there for a few years, but I am just starting to learn more about the finer points of bass habitats. I have caught bass in it, but usually above the weeds. It's thick stuff, sometimes snags a Texas rig, but definitely snags almost every other lure. I usually target laydowns, flooded timber, Rocky areas, and shaded areas under trees. Now it time to to conquer whatever Vegetation this stuff is. Hydrilla, chara, or pond weed, this stuff must have some big ones in it, under it, or around it. It's very green.

It's a type of Pondweed, most of which are brittle compared to Hydrilla and Millfoil.

Pitch 1/2 -1 oz lead will get you through it, to the monsters that lurk beneath it.
