bgaviator Posted May 14, 2021 Posted May 14, 2021 When I was learning about different fishing tackle and I was learning about bass jigs, a style that was mentioned was the Arkie style. It said this was the most universal style head as it could be used as a swim jig, as well as a flipping/pitching jig. If I go to Bass Pro I don’t see anything labeled as Arkie style. I do see these however on Walmart’s web site, and they are labeled as Arkie jigs. Do Arkie style jigs go by a different name for different brands, or is it its own style and brand? The head on the Walmart Arkie jigs doesn’t quite look like anything else I’m seeing on Bass Pro’s website. Thanks. Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted May 14, 2021 Super User Posted May 14, 2021 Re: Wallyworld..I've seen to many items that were mislabeled, to trust who ever did the labeling. Why not get good quality jigs from a well know and trusted vendor..? Siebert Outdoors makes some great jigs, that many here can attest to. Here's a link to the Arky jigs available. BTW, arky is a style of jig, not a brand name. https://siebertoutdoors.com/products/ols/products/grid-iron-arky-jig 3 1 1 Quote
Super User Spankey Posted May 14, 2021 Super User Posted May 14, 2021 Arky/Arkie is branded junk that is floating around Wally Worlds. I believe they make Crappie style type jigheads. But an Arkie Jig is a true style of jig, not to be confused with the Wally World stuff being sold. I’m under the impression that all Wally Worlds are not created equal and some have terrific fishing departments. Not any in my area. Some of y’all are lucky. Quote

Seems like a lot of people on here like their stuff. I’m still new to all of this. Any particular styles/models/weight sizes you like? Tungsten vs lead? Etc etc. The lake I fish is at is an army corps lake. Damned up Forrest area with tons of trees sticking out of the water. Quote

Super User the reel ess Posted May 14, 2021 Super User Posted May 14, 2021 The Arky style head is the ATV of jigheads. It can be used anywhere. It's my favorite jighead design, but I've been using the Trashmaster with good success lately. 1 1 Quote

I include myself in that statement as jigs are still not a confidence bait for me. Your picture looks like a great place for a newby ( like myself) to get frustrated by losing jigs but looks PERFECT for the Trashmaster. The Trashmaster is about as snagless as you can get. I like them and have several and some of a slightly different design that were custom made. For a traditional Arky type head or about anything else you could want, you couldn't go wrong with Sieberts. They'll take care of you. 2 Quote
bgaviator Posted May 14, 2021 Author Posted May 14, 2021 Can you use jigs using monofilament? The Zebco Bullet I’m thinking about getting comes prespooled with 10# mono I believe. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted May 14, 2021 Super User Posted May 14, 2021 Yes, but you should probably buy a couple. Jigs like rocks and trees. 2 Quote

Dens228 Posted May 14, 2021 Posted May 14, 2021 I'd also be pulling a swim jig/paddletail around that stuff.......I'd be in heaven! Quote
bagofdonuts Posted May 14, 2021 Posted May 14, 2021 mono will work fine. I'd go at least 15lb for pitching jigs into the bushes probably 20. or buy lots of jigs and retie often. 1 Quote
throttleplate Posted May 14, 2021 Posted May 14, 2021 those arkie jigs sold at wallmart are only $1.46 and they work great. 2 1 Quote

PAbassfanatic Posted May 15, 2021 Posted May 15, 2021 Beware, not all of the arkie jigs sold at walmart are made in usa and it makes a big difference. The labeling on the front of the packaging is the same (including USA flag); however on the back some state made in china (ie 1/2oz blk/blu is made in usa, 3/8oz wht is made in china). The jigs made in china don't have the same quality hook. 2 Quote

You don't need expensive jigs from sponsors to get the job done, I've been catching on $1.56 Wally's Arkie (brand name) jigs for years. Maybe good idea to start with some cheap ones like this to learn with them and see how much I get snagged in my local lake before getting more expensive ones. I learned the hard way when I threw my $5 crankbait into a lake from the shore and got it immediately snagged and lost on the first cast. 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted May 15, 2021 Super User Posted May 15, 2021 Any jig is only as good as hook the head is molded onto regardless of who makes it. Cheap hook low quality jig. Next comes the skirt and good quality isn’t free with skirts materials. You can get high quality at a fare price point, cheap is cheap in every respect. Tom 1 Quote
