Brutal_boost Posted May 14, 2021 Posted May 14, 2021 I have smaller hands and my hand starts to get sore holding a bait caster all day. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on reels that fit better in the hand. I've heard some good things about the Daiwa Tatula 100 and I think I am going to give that a shot but I am wondering what else is out there? Quote
Super User ATA Posted May 14, 2021 Super User Posted May 14, 2021 do curado/slx 70 sizes. or Aldebaran 30 size. they are all small size. 1 Quote

I've seen those but I always though they would only be useful when throwing finesse baits? It seems like they don't have a lot of line on the spool and you may run out of line while power fishing. I could be totally wrong though as I have never tried them! Quote
Super User JustJames Posted May 14, 2021 Super User Posted May 14, 2021 SLX 150, bantam MGL, metanium MGL, these are 150 size spool capacity and smaller than Tatula 100. What reel do you have now and how big of the line you plan to use? The 70 size Shimano can hold about 70 yds of 15lb FC. I doubt if you are going to run out of line when bass fishing. You can also spool with 30-40lb braid instead. I use my Curado 70 from 1/16oz Ned rig all the way to 3/8-1/2 oz jig/chatterbait, frog and whopper popper 110 (1oz). Sore hand can happen if your rod and reel not balance, as well as too heavy setup. 2 Quote
waymont Posted May 14, 2021 Posted May 14, 2021 2020 Tatula SV tw 103 is small, and an excellent reel. Curado 70 is a great reel......105 yds of 10lb mono. 1 Quote

Look at their line capacity and then choose between them, anyways you asking for smaller reels, so you'll have less line on them. Anyways Curado and SLX size 150 are also pretty small. Quote
jbrew73 Posted May 14, 2021 Posted May 14, 2021 Lew’s slp reels are the smallest I have used. 1 Quote
Super User Catt Posted May 14, 2021 Super User Posted May 14, 2021 Bought a Lew's Team Lite Speed Spool couple weeks ago. 120 yds of 12# Weight: 5.6 ozs Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted May 14, 2021 Super User Posted May 14, 2021 Lews slp and lfs. Lews Custom lite is also 4.9 oz. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted May 14, 2021 Super User Posted May 14, 2021 Shimano Bantam MGL. It has plenty of line capacity, palms well, and is built like a tank. 1 Quote
Super User jimmyjoe Posted May 14, 2021 Super User Posted May 14, 2021 I don't know what your hands are like, but mine are fat and short-fingered. I have the 70 and 150 size Shimano reels; they are more comfortable for me than the Daiwa reels. Drags are good, gears are smooth and strength is great for the size. I'm a shorecaster, and they have adequate line capacity for my long casts. My lines are .012" for both mono and braid. I wouldn't cast 1+ oz. lures with the 70 size (although others do) but the 150 size seem to handle it very well. jj Quote
garroyo130 Posted May 14, 2021 Posted May 14, 2021 Im disappointed in yall. I came here expecting this ... 2 Quote
KP Duty Posted May 14, 2021 Posted May 14, 2021 My 13 fishing concept reels are the smallest I own. They even make my steez sv feel wide. Quote
JWall14 Posted May 14, 2021 Posted May 14, 2021 Curado MGL is maybe the most palm friendly reel I have ever held. It is super smooth too. Quote
TBAG Posted May 14, 2021 Posted May 14, 2021 I'll echo what everyone has mentioned already but I love my SLX and Curado 70 MGL reels. Quote
Super User WRB Posted May 14, 2021 Super User Posted May 14, 2021 Learn to hold the rod not the reel issue goes away. The rod needs to have a comfortable fore grip/ lock ring at least 2 “ long for 3 fingers to hold onto, the reel rest against your palm. This has several benefits; better balance, allows the line to go over the index finger and under the thumb for strike detection, prevents loose line on the spool. Tom 2 Quote
Sir Shamsalot Posted May 14, 2021 Posted May 14, 2021 Not sure what you're looking to spend so small reels with capacity at mid-entry price... Shimano : SLX line save for the DC, the Casitas is great if you can find one. Lew's : Tournament MB/MP. Great reel for the price. Daiwa : Tatula Elite series. I guess the 100 is the same size frame but I don't own one. I've found the Elite to be my favorite and still first choice for long casting heavier lines like 20lb FC. Quote
kayaking_kev Posted May 14, 2021 Posted May 14, 2021 For sure the SLX MGL 70, out of my Metanium MGL 150, SLX 150 & XT & DC, Tatula 100, Tatula SV TW103 which are are all pretty good also. The Lew's LFS platform reels like the Tournament MB are comfortable too, but not as good of quality. Quote
