lou304 Posted May 13, 2021 Posted May 13, 2021 I'm a sucker for new frogs. Anyone out there try this one yet and what do you think? Not really frog season up here in Upstate NY yet. Quote
Brett's_daddy Posted May 13, 2021 Posted May 13, 2021 I love frog fishing too and always fall for a new frog lure...I ordered 4 of them, Dusk, Boneyard, Bullfrog and Bluegill. I got them and they look great, very nice color schemes and those Owner red frog hooks are sticky sharp. Can't wait for froggin' season to start!!! 1 Quote
Jaderose Posted May 13, 2021 Posted May 13, 2021 I threw mine for the first time just the other day and I like them. But.....I didn't notice anything particularly amazing about them compared to the Trophy Series. Yeah, the eyes aren't stickers you're gonna lose the first day but I couldn't possibly care any less about how they look. A little more compact than the Trophy and you can chuck them a mile. Are they better than the trophy series? For my style, not particularly. Will I buy again? Probably but not at a huge premium over the Trophy. I suspect they will walk and swivel better on open water or in pads but again, not really my style. I'm doing heavy mat combat and not much can beat that flat, wide *Splat* the TS makes when it lands from a good high arc. I intend to fully give them a go this summer to see if they are really anything special. 2 Quote
Super User Deleted account Posted May 13, 2021 Super User Posted May 13, 2021 Haven't tried one, probably will at some point, but I have my frog selection where I want it, can't imagine anything I want different. Quote

Everyone stare at the Neuralizer, "Trophy frogs suck, Live Target, Live Target, Live Target"... 1 Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted May 13, 2021 Global Moderator Posted May 13, 2021 The only brand frog I use is the Scum. Either the original ones or Trophy Series. Softest frog there is. I haven’t tried the Launch yet because I never had a reason to change. Mike Quote

They're 17 grams and catch wind more than conventional frogs, so I'm not really getting the "launch" part. Its soft body does help with hook sets, but if you fish places that have Yellow Lotus, with their leaves that rise up above the water's surface, this frog's soft body will allow its hooks to snag up constantly. Bending them out beyond how they're shipped will not help your cause either in thick algae slop because they'll just grab everything. For me where I fish, I'll work them only in flat Lily fields and the edges of anything "up" because it's just not worth the hassle otherwise. Quote

Mike The Trophy series is basically the ONLY frog I've thrown for years, with the exception of a little Pad Crasher that I cut the tails off of. The in becomes this little spastic ball of a topwater bait. I highly recommend for anyone to do this. I use this bait when I don't want the size of the Trophy series and the mats are not heavy or are nonexistent. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted May 13, 2021 Global Moderator Posted May 13, 2021 The thing about any Scum model is that you don’t need to spread the hooks out like everything else. I’ve been throwing the original little one (and only in (grn/pepper) in more open water only. When it starts to get heavy the Trophy is all I need Mike Quote
