Not necessarily asking which one is better. Just asking how you guys feel the Xps compares to the Gamakatsu EWG?

I usually buy all gamakatsus, but to save money wanted to see if the Xps’ will hold their own and get the job done. I’ve already started catching some bass on them, but wanted to see if any of you guys have had more extensive experience with them.

Thankyou!

The first EWG hooks I ever bought were the XPS hooks.  They did OK, and that first pack of hooks lasted me about a year and a half.  When I bought the second pack I ended up pitching them.  When I would fish them on a T-rig, and hit a snag, those hooks would bend fairly easy.  That's when I started using Gammy hooks.

I fish them. They work just fine. Like the others I tried them to compare to Grammys. The Grammys seem to be lighter wire which I like. I like the XPS straight shanks for some plastics I throw. I’ve had guys tell me they fish soft plastics with off the wall brand Wally World specials. I’d like to believe BPS is far better than a Wally.

I have both.  The Gammy's are better.  I don't mind saving a buck here or there on less expensive but good alternatives.  The XPS fish and work just fine.  But I won't buy them again.  The Gammy's are lighter, seem to be stronger, and are sharper.  Good enough to justify the extra bucks IMHO.

Tried the XPS EWG hooks years ago and the first 4 I used broke. Maybe I just got a bad batch but I threw them in the trash.

What I look for in most of the gear I buy, is consistency. That is one reason I stick with name brands that have proven to be so.  In the few replies what you see about the XPS is they aren't consistently reliable.  Stick with a name brand that you trust.

Thanks guys, by what you all said, I’ll be sticking with the Gammy’s.

While I’m doing that, I’ll get a pack of the Xps’s to test out for a while when not worried about losing a big one.

For what it's worth, when I worked in the fishing dept for BPS, all the XPS were made by VMC. That was several years ago. I still have, and use some of the light wire XPS hooks with no issue.

Thanks for that man! Sometimes I wonder if some people give bad reviews on stuff just because it’s not their favorite brand, and actually not based on the performance of the product.

Ived used Xps finesse jigs and jig heads over the past 3 years and have never had an issue.

A lot of people knock the Offshore Angler Extreme Fluorocarbon. I really don’t think those people actually looked at the small print and noticed that it is made by SEAGUAR. I’ve never had an issue with that line. Again thanks for posting. ?

In my opinion there is more hype and bullpucky in fishing than just about any other industry I've been involved with as a consumer. You are correct to be skeptical about all of it.

Honestly I think any "prejudice" I have against BPS hooks has to do with the shape more than anything.  I have them intermingled with my Gammy hooks in my hook box and if I absent-mindedly pull out a hook and get a BPS, I tie it on and fish with it with no problem or worry.  If I'm actually looking, I choose a Gammy.  I just think it's a "cleaner" design and the hooks seem to be sharper.  I have a lot of them and will most likely use them for years but probably won't buy them again when I need to stock up.  The only BPS branded product I ABSOLUTELY do not like is the Kermy frog.  I bought one of the kits a few year back to try them and lost  the brass belly weight on all of them.  They suck!

I think bowhunting has fishing beat by a country mile. Daiwa vs Shimano doesn’t scratch the surface of Mathews vs Hoyt.

I use Easton aluminum XX78 arrows. According to close to 95% of bowhunters today, I’ll never kill a deer with one and should use the shafts as tomato stakes lol.

I bought a couple of packs of the XPS to try out. I've had no issue with them. One thing that I did notice is the barb is a little more aggressive than the name brand stuff, thus making it a little more difficult to unhook the fish. Outside of that they’ve been good. I normally use Gammy's or Trokar's.

Try the audiophile community.  There are people who will spend over $1,000 on a power cable.  As if the hundreds of miles of power cable between you and the power plant don't matter, nor the hundreds of feet between your transformer and outlet, but that last six feet can make or break your system.  And how about spending a few hundred bucks or more on rocks to tape to your cables and set on top of your amplifiers.  Not diamonds or sapphires or some other rock with at least a monetary value, mind you.  Just regular old quartz.  Lots of people swear by them, but no one seems to agree on how they work.

My opinion of XPS is hooks is that they're good enough for me.  Really, the only brand of hook that's let me down is Eagle Claw.  Anything other than that seems to be fine.

Oh ya, Monster Cables anyone?

If a million people believe in BS, it's still BS.

But anyways, I just ordered some Lazer Sharp 4/0 from BPS, and some 2/0s. Sold out in the store here. I'm pretty new to bass fishing so that's where I'm at now.
