SC53 Posted May 11, 2021 Posted May 11, 2021 Now that we got the gloves out of the way ? whats y’all take on UV face mask/buffs? Specifically looking for ones with breath holes and least amount of glasses fogging (if that’s possible). Quote
cyclops2 Posted May 11, 2021 Posted May 11, 2021 I use a LONG billed hat with a LIGHT cloth triangular, full face & neck cover. Held on with 3 Velcro snaps. A LONG sleeved white fishing shirt. LONG light weight Kaki trousers. Full fingered gloves. I never need or use Sun lotions. All my coverings are rated SPF + 50. I have several sets to wash & change off to. The face covering just leaves my eyes visible. 1 Quote
Super User Darth-Baiter Posted May 11, 2021 Super User Posted May 11, 2021 I have a few but the ones I gravitate to are my Buffs brands that I bought for hiking and work Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted May 11, 2021 Super User Posted May 11, 2021 I do things slightly different. I have one of those SPF fishing hoodies, I always keep the hood up because it keeps my cap on. I wear wrist bands to soak up the sweat some. Because of past leg blood issues, I wear a moderate wright knee high compression socks and knee length shorts with lots of pockets. Knees & hands are exposed and so I put quite a bit of spray on sun screen on those areas - no issues with burning last year. I don't like to look skuffy when I'm fishing so I get the upper end spa 50 fishing hoodies that just look better - to me at least. My current favorite one is a Patagonia one - with 4 different colors of light green swirly camp, it blurs the lines between camp & paisley. I wear that with a white cap, white shorts & white anti blood clot socks. Be mindful that it aint just summer when you have to pay attention to this - in the past I've gotten some kinda painful cheek & neck sun burns in March. 1 Quote
cyclops2 Posted May 11, 2021 Posted May 11, 2021 Have to post this time I approached a USCG patrol boat on the St Lawrence. I see the boat motoring slowly up river. Then drift back maybe 100'. Restart go forward 50'. Stop again . Then lets out the anchor. RIGHT in the FREIGHTER CHANNEL. I motor over towards them to offer help if needed. I get about100' from them and a voice yells. STOP Do NOT COME CLOSER. Then a beffy guy come out cycles a live round into his AR style. I yell who I am & that I came to help them if needed. A voice tells me to remove my hat & face covering. I do. He asks If I am a American citizen. I realize I look just like a bad guy. I give him my rank & serial number in the USN. Couple of minutes pass & the AR guy disappears & waves for me to come along side. We all started to laugh a little as they produce a picture of me approaching them. I really did look like a baddie completely covered Up. To this day I am never stopped & searched in my small fishing boat. They were looking for a wreck to do practice dives on. Great bunch of USCG doing patrols. 1 2 Quote
SC53 Posted May 11, 2021 Author Posted May 11, 2021 Living in Florida all my life I do all the sun protection measures. I sunscreen up BEFORE I leave the house which is what you need to do so it has time to absorb. But at times I want the face covering for additional protection snd to hold hat/glasses on while running. Just looking for suggestions on a breathable face mask. Quote

The Simms ones have perforations where your mouth and nose are. Pretty free breathing. 2 Quote
Super User Scott F Posted May 11, 2021 Super User Posted May 11, 2021 Anything like a buff that goes around my neck, even a turtle neck sweater really bothers me so I can’t wear them. I do have a full beard which has given me a lot of protection. Wrap around sunglasses and a wide brim hat only leaves my nose and a small space between my cheekbones exposed. A bit of sunscreen on those areas and I’m covered. I barely get any color on my face at all. 1 Quote
Michigander Posted May 11, 2021 Posted May 11, 2021 Also Glacier Gloves. All other ones I tried were too tight on my big head. Quote

Super User Log Catcher Posted May 11, 2021 Super User Posted May 11, 2021 I can't help with the buff. My wife found a product in the vision center at Wal Mart you spray on your glasses and it stops them from fogging up. It has worked very well on ours. Quote
Bass Junke Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 NRS makes them with laser cut holes for better airflow and to cut down on your glasses fogging. They are made from the same material as all their silk weight clothes. I have mentioned before the NRS silk weights are the lightest UPF50 material I have ever worn. Downside, the buffs only come in puke green and grey. Quote
blckshirt98 Posted May 21, 2021 Posted May 21, 2021 I wear prescription glasses/sunglasses and haven't found a buff/face mask that doesn't cause my glasses to fog up. I put the buff over my head/ears but pull it down just below my lower lip and use sunscreen on my face and wear a boonie hat with a 360 degree full brim. 1 Quote

Pretty much the reason I don't wear a buff at all. Sunscreen where the beard doesn't cover is about it...hat helps too. Quote
