Eddie101 Posted May 11, 2021 Posted May 11, 2021 Which sunglasses do you suggest for - of course - fishing? I'm looking at Kastking brand @$26.99 which sounds more than reasonable for protecting my eyes and other good stuff. What's your favorite? Quote
Super User gim Posted May 11, 2021 Super User Posted May 11, 2021 Costa Del Mar in fantail model with a green mirror lens. Can be found online for about 100 bucks if you look. Shady Rays aren’t bad for the price and they offer free shipping, a free return warranty, and have a good selection. 2 Quote
desmobob Posted May 11, 2021 Posted May 11, 2021 1) Smith Action Optics ChromaPop Copper 2) Maui Jim HCL Bronze. 3) Anything else polarized; from Strike King on up. I think good glasses are worth the money but most budget glasses work very well. Quote

Luke Barnes Posted May 11, 2021 Posted May 11, 2021 I swear by my Oakley Mainlink with Deep Water Polarized lenses. Quote
walleyecrazy Posted May 11, 2021 Posted May 11, 2021 I am a fan of Costa sunglasses, and own several pairs. If you are on a budget however I think Suncloud optics are about the best budget glasses there are. They are owned by Smith optics, who themselves make very good glasses. Quote
Fallser Posted May 11, 2021 Posted May 11, 2021 I wear prescription glasses, but getting polarized prescription glasses is way above what I'm willing to pay. I use what I called, old people sun glasses, Cocoons that fit over my regular glasses. Now that I'm one of them, I fit right in. Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted May 11, 2021 Super User Posted May 11, 2021 I have used Oakley (4 pair), Costa (5 pair), Strike King (2 pair) and Berkley (1 pair). I think the frame fit is WAY more important to me than the lens color. An uncomfortable pair of sunglasses will make me miserable. Find a comfortable frame, then worry about the lens color YMMV. 1 Quote
Deephaven Posted May 11, 2021 Posted May 11, 2021 Glass lenses last 10x as long as plastic. I am huge fan of Maui Jim's glass. 2 Quote

Deephaven Posted May 11, 2021 Posted May 11, 2021 Ok, add scratch free to my last. Plastic lenses get microscratches and all cloudy really fast in comparison. I get occular migraines though so I wear sunglasses anytime I go even near outdoors. Mine get used. The only glass Maui's that have ever had a problem were a pair my buddy knocked off the table and stepped on breaking a lens and a pair that flew off my head going 75 across the lake without a strap. Drew03cmc Posted May 11, 2021 Posted May 11, 2021 Costa Fish, I have two pair, amber and green mirror. So far, they're really nice. I have had Oakley Fuel Cells in the smoke lens, they're nice too. My son has some Solar Bat RB1 and he absolutely loves them. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 11, 2021 Global Moderator Posted May 11, 2021 I've had them from several companies, I really like Costa, but the Strike King S11's are nice, but I can't wear them long because of my fat head. I had a pair by Revo that fit great, but unfortunately the frame broke on them. One thing to consider with glass lens, they'll shatter. If you're wearing them and a jig or T-rig comes back and mach speed and hits that lens, you're potentially going to have a bunch of glass fragments in your eye. The odds may be slim, but something to keep in mind when making your purchase. 2 1 Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted May 11, 2021 Super User Posted May 11, 2021 I've had my Maui Jim glasses for about 8 years, granted they are not cheap, but you get lenses that are of a much higher quality, i.e. less distortion, better impact strength.. I've had Strike King glasses, and the lens scratched fairly easy, mine only lasted about a year. Quote

The green mirror is a copper lens - https://www.costadelmar.com/en-us/performance-technology/lenses - but the mirror finish helps to filter some more light. They're great. Provide great contrast, you can wear them anywhere if you want to because they're not too dark. Also, get the polycarbonate (580P) instead of the glass (580G). Partly because they're cheaper, but mostly because they don't shatter when hit and provide an extra layer of safety. 1 Quote
Ski Posted May 11, 2021 Posted May 11, 2021 I have 3 pair of Costa's… Grey for every day Fl. sun... Amber for cloudy and overcast days...And Blue for off shore.. However I also have a pair of Wiley X Gray lens that are crystal clear and I am becoming a fan of for bright days. 1 Quote
CrankFate Posted May 11, 2021 Posted May 11, 2021 I have tried lots of sunglasses over the years. Now a days, I wear iDrive glasses, polarized amber glasses. $90 a pair. I’ve lost and broken too many glasses that cost way more over the years. Quote
Dens228 Posted May 11, 2021 Posted May 11, 2021 Onos polarized. I need cheaters built in and the Onos are the best I've found. $99. 2 Quote

Lead Head Posted May 11, 2021 Posted May 11, 2021 My suggestion... Go somewhere that sells costa and try on every style they have. Take note of all the styles that fit comfortably and block out the maximum amount of light around the edges. Then shop online for the best price of one of the styles that fit well. If you're only going to have 1 pair, I highly recommend green mirrored (copper based). For me, they are comfortable in bright sun, pretty good in lower light, and amazing for everything in between. 1 Quote

Id hate to be a small brick and mortar business owner or worker that has to clean every pair of sunglasses you try on only for you to give money elsewhere. 1 Quote
Super User GaryH Posted May 11, 2021 Super User Posted May 11, 2021 Costa’s 1st. choice Wiley X 2nd choice. 1 Quote
Jmilburn76 Posted May 11, 2021 Posted May 11, 2021 I wear prescription and have a pair of Wiley X and a pair of Amphibia. The nice thing about the Amphibia is they float. Quote
