So I was fishing on a bridge with my spinning reel w 20# braid and the ozark trail rattle lure perch. A good 3LB came and snatched my lure, I set the hook but later it spit it out. Why?

You probably didn't get a good hook set.

Know the feeling of being butt hurt when that happens. Hurts twice as bad when a 6 pounder does that to you, especially when you think you did everything right on your part.

No telling without witnessing it, but It could be any of several things, or nothing at all, sometimes fish get off even if everything is done right. When a lipless dangles outside the mouth, it can work it's way free sometimes. Happens.

No one can tell you why with any degree of certainty without being there.

Hook set?

Condition of tackle?

How was it hooked?

Drag set?

How were you bringing it in?

etc

etc

It happens, even when you do everything right.

Hook set? Medium hook set

Condition of tackle? Brand new right out of the box

How was it hooked? The bass bit it horizontally and held it in its mouth

Drag set? Yep

How were you bringing it in? medium-fast

etc

etc

I've hooked a many of them when they slap at it and the hooks penetrate outside of the the mouth.  Much easier to lose 'em that way.  As others have said, sometime you do it all right and still lose 'em.

100%. The reason it got away was because it was fighting for its life.  It was scared. :)

every bass I lost was a giant.

was the bridge way up off the water?  I find when I set the hook, I’m yanking up and the hooks are at the bottom. I sonetimes get crappie hook sets that way.

Sometimes they win, even if you did everything right. And yes, it can really suck. Just tip your hat to them and move on to the next catch.

Yep, it's gonna happen and it's usually the hefty ones that swim off into the sunset.

Rattle baits are the ones they throw the most, they can use the weight of the lure as leverage and sling it

It's the sport that makes this Fishing instead of Catching.
