Some companies say they build them in the USA but the components are Chinese. These appear to be the same as Ampere Time or Chins, but I noted that I didn't see anything about having a BMS, and whether or not they can be hooked in series or parallel. That's the kind of information a serious company would note right off the bat. Quote

The Lithium Hubs have Bluetooth connectivity to a phone app. You have constant real time battery info. https://lithiumhub.com/ I'ts been a game changer for me. I fish a small boat on electric only lakes and it may seem to be overkill, but never having worry about battery life is great. At age 65 having a 28 lb battery is so much easier to manage. 2 Quote
Super User Way2slow Posted July 29, 2021 Super User Posted July 29, 2021 Lithium technology has greatly improved over the years and it's fairly new to the TM market. Because of that large, upfront cost, I have not even considered doing any research on them. Now, I do have tons of experience with them, just not that large, with my Radio controlled helicopters, planes and truck. Again, the TM batteries may be plug and play, like I said, I've done zero research on them because at their price, I don't ever see owning them for no more than I'm on the water now. Just make sure you do your home work because using and maintaining them is nothing like lead acid batteries. Quote

I also have been using a lithium hub battery, 30ah, for the motor for my kayak and it has been great. Quote

If you read their FAQs, they address both your BMS and connection questions. Quote

Same with me - I have that same 100ah battery and am on my second season. I am 69 and having 100ah in a battery that is 1/2 the weight of my old Group 24 lead-acid battery is the bees knees. The Bluetooth app has worked flawlessly. As with you, 100ah is overkill for powering the TM on my canoe (the 50ah model would have been plenty for my needs) but there is great comfort in knowing that I will always have enough juice...! I'm going to rewire everything and move my t/m battery forward in late fall/ winter. I'd love to make the jump to lithium. Quote

I'd love to make the jump to lithium. That's a question that you have to present to the specific battery seller - it seems they have different recommendations. Some sellers say that the internal battery BMS can take the power from a standard battery charger and ensure that the correct charge profile and voltages are applied during charging - other sellers say that only a modern charger with a lithium setting should be used. For me, I have a relatively recent production NOCO charger that has a lithium setting so that's what I use... 1 Quote

When I was researching Lithium batteries every manufacturer recommended a lithium specific charger as a normal 12V charger will charge but you won't get full voltage. A lot of the chargers will also be able to wake up a cell if needed. 1 Quote

I'd love to make the jump to lithium. I bought a 36v Amped outdoors and it came with a charger. Switch from 24v AGM to 36v Lithium and removed the MK 330 charger. Total weight reduced was like 92lbs after I figured it up. On top of weight saving I went from 80lb to 112 for the TM. Allen 1 Quote
Super User Way2slow Posted August 9, 2021 Super User Posted August 9, 2021 Typically, lithium charge have a balance connector that monitors each cell so each is charged fully and evenly. Now this could be built into the battery, or it could built into the charger. If they are depending on it being in the charger, it will require one with it. Also, lithium's are very critical on charging voltage, if they are expecting the charger to maintain those, it's going to require a charger designed for lithium's. It is possible they build a control board in them to control the balance and even the charging voltage to help make the more user friendly. Quote

Should they be trusted? Do you know any that can be at these prices? These are 25 pounds vs 120+ pounds for an AGM. At that weight and price (or near it) I may actually put a motor in my new yak. I forgot that I subbed to his channel: DIY Solar Power with Will Prowse - YouTube Some common brands on Amazon that he says are good are Chins and AmpereTime - both are identical and there are a few other identical brands as well. Overcharge protection BMS etc. There are 100ah lithium batteries for $400+ which is probably a better buy than a 200ah AGM (same run time). They also weigh a fraction of a lead acid, which is actually why I can't use lead (tendinitis). This guy is very thorough and makes excellent videos. It's funny watching him try to tear these apart too. He also has instructions on DIY lithium battery building. Very highly recommended channel if you're looking for lithium batteries, or DIY solar setups. 1 Quote
