I got a good deal on a NIB Tatula 100H 6.3:1 baitcasting reel. Now I need a rod. I have Daiwa Aird-X MF and MHF, Falcon Lowrider MHF and a Fenwick HMX HF rods now. I was contemplating a Dobyns Fury 7’ MF but am open to suggestions. Looking to spend under $150.00.

I have a Daiwa Fuego on the Falcon set up as my main soft plastics rig. I figure to use the Tatula more for spinnerbaits, crankbaits and other moving baits. Not sure if I should go MF or MHF. And I may try fluoro for the first time.

Fury 705CB

Cranks, spinners, chatters - want a more moderate action, especially for treble lures.

I will look at that. Never used a moderate fast action before.

I like faster actions for spinnerbaits, but fish grass and weeds with them.  Cranks a more moderate or any underwater treble.

As a rule I don’t fish a lot of crankbaits. Most tend to pick up a lot of weeds and debris in the ponds I fish. I have been using jerkbaits more frequently and some squarebills. It’s a bait type I need to explore more.

For $70.00 get a falcon bucco trap caster from S.O.

For $150.00 grab an amistad too and have a nice frog rod. ☺️

I paired a Tatula 100H with a Daiwa Procyon 7'3" Med Hvy Fast.

My tatula 100 is setting on an Abu Vendetta 6’9” MF for my shakey head rig. I absolutely love this setup and couldn’t have made a better pairing(for my budget).

I also looked at that rod. I have a Daiwa Procyon MF spinning rod and for the $$ it’s a nice rod.

I also have the 7' Hvy Fast, they're both light and perform great for the $.

Although I have yet to use them I have 2 Okuma rods, a 7’-2” evx and a 7’-3” tcs bought during Tackle Warehouse Black Friday sale. They are very well put together, light and comfortable imho. There are tons of you tube reviews on many of their rods and many reviews on this site also which helped me pull the trigger on mine. Another rod I can recommend is a bps carbonlite 2.0 7’-0” med. fast, I’ve thrown spinner baits, lipless cranks and square bills and it handles all of them with no issues. It’s probably the most versatile rod I have and if I’m only bringing one rod this is the rod I bring.

Academy has a Dobyns Fury FR705CB available locally. Going to check it out tomorrow and if I like it, I’m buying it. The Tatula 100 arrived today. It looks like a nice reel.

I used the fury 705 cb for spinnerbaits for two seasons. It was great. Had allot of fun with it. There is enough power to shake it out of moderate grass. Barely ever lost a spinnerbait fish on that rod. Highly recommend it for that.

So, I got delayed a day but picked up the Dobyns FR 705CB today. I looked at some other rods as well (St. Croix Bass X, Falcon Buccoo, Loomis E6X), but decided I liked this one best.

Funny thing. They had this rod and a FR 703C (MH/F). The 705CB is a MH/MF). In the store, I could not detect much difference. I’m sure casting and fishing with it you can, but I really couldn’t in the store.

Looking forward to using it soon!

The 703C while saying MH is more like other brand's M...yes, I have both. The closer rod to a 705CB is the 704C as far as suggested weight range of lures is concerned.

I think you'll be happy with that - I'm enjoying my Fuego CT-H on my 705CB.

Just spooled the Tatula with 10 lb. Big Game, set the drag and spool tension and set the brake at 10 to start. Tied on a 6th Sense Provoke 106X jerkbait to start. Hopefully this weekend.

The 703c is a great squarebill and trap rod.
