Super User DitchPanda Posted May 7, 2021 Super User Posted May 7, 2021 So this year has been a letdown for size for me. By this time last year I had already caught a 6 and a 7...my best so far this year is 4 1/4. Anybody else struggling to find those bigger fish? Quote
Super User Mobasser Posted May 7, 2021 Super User Posted May 7, 2021 Yes. I can't seem to get any good size fish. So far, a dinkfest. Quote
Super User scaleface Posted May 7, 2021 Super User Posted May 7, 2021 I cant even fish. Just been once ..Every free day I have the wind has kept me off the water. 20 to 40 mph winds every day . 3 Quote
K1500 Posted May 7, 2021 Posted May 7, 2021 It has been a rough fishing spring for the central US for sure, especially from a weather standpoint. 2 Quote
Dumbbassanglr Posted May 7, 2021 Posted May 7, 2021 I’m in central Ohio and have caught a few 4s one 5 and one 6 which is huge for here. Quote
Super User Bird Posted May 7, 2021 Super User Posted May 7, 2021 I'm way off the pace from last year in size and quantity, the main culprit being a steady dose of cold fronts and wind. 1 Quote
FishinBuck07 Posted May 7, 2021 Posted May 7, 2021 I haven't got to go out yet, too much crap to do around the house this spring. Finally got it all done and the weather turns back into nonsense here in Ohio. Quote
BassNJake Posted May 7, 2021 Posted May 7, 2021 I have caught some larger fish but thats because of 2 trips to Chickamauga. Still somewhat of a disappointment because I'm trying for something over 7 for about 10 years now Quote
Black Hawk Basser Posted May 7, 2021 Posted May 7, 2021 Not many bigs for me yet either. I've devoted more of my time on the boat to learning my sonar better, and also cashing in on a great crappie bite. Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted May 7, 2021 Global Moderator Posted May 7, 2021 We don’t really have the bigs where I live, the 2019 bassmaster classic (when all the big names were still with BASS) and the 2021 BASS elite event only kicked out a small number of fish at 6 lbs or better. If the best in the world can’t get 7 pounders I doubt I’m going to but we do have lots of 3-4 lb smallmouth that can keep you busy this spring I’ve just been catching hundreds and hundreds of white bass with a few other species mixed in 1 Quote
gunsinger Posted May 7, 2021 Posted May 7, 2021 I've not caught anything over 5.5 this year. I saw some that pushed ten caught by others in the fall but 6 is the largest I've heard about on the lake I fish most often (private lake in our subdivision). Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted May 7, 2021 Global Moderator Posted May 7, 2021 Largest so far this year was a 8.21 off a bed. Vast majority in the 2-3 range. Mike 1 Quote
cdlittle Posted May 7, 2021 Posted May 7, 2021 Way ahead of last year in numbers, but it's been a dinkfest. Largest bass this year measured 2.71lb Quote
Zcoker Posted May 7, 2021 Posted May 7, 2021 The fishing has been on fire here in south Florida with every outing bringing in multiple 5-7 pounders. I like the windy days, chop on the water, those spinnerbaits are kicking some fins. But the blue bird skies have produced just as well, ironically. I've lost some true monsters this year, those kind of fish that seem to haunt dreams lol. Keeps me going back for more! 3 Quote
TriStateBassin106 Posted May 7, 2021 Posted May 7, 2021 I can't get on fish consistently this spring. One second they're there one second they're not. I'll trade places if it means I can get fish. 1 Quote

Super User fishwizzard Posted May 7, 2021 Super User Posted May 7, 2021 2021 has been a huge dink-fest so far. I fish a lot of light tackle, so I don't really mind big numbers days, but it's a little annoying when I am out with a heavy jig rod and am just winching in 8" bass all day. Quote
BigAngus752 Posted May 7, 2021 Posted May 7, 2021 I haven't run into any big, pre-spawn females that threaten to bust my scale, but I have caught a large number of very healthy, decently-sized bass this year. It has varied with the weather but taking everything into account I feel that the year is off to a really good start. I never catch my biggest fish in the spring anyway so I don't feel like the fishing has been lacking but the weather has certainly sucked. 1 Quote
CrankFate Posted May 7, 2021 Posted May 7, 2021 To be catching anything in April is a PB for me I don’t care if they are low 2lbs fish. 1 Quote
Michigander Posted May 7, 2021 Posted May 7, 2021 Been a cold and windy year so far. It's like the weather can't quite get out of very early spring. Quote
throttleplate Posted May 7, 2021 Posted May 7, 2021 its going to be a cool year in the midwest, bad for growing crops with many cloudy days. Quote
MGF Posted May 8, 2021 Posted May 8, 2021 Mostly because of weather I've only had the boat out twice. Most of my fish thus far have been from ponds and it's been a lot of dinks. I'm down a vehicle and the river is low so I haven't been out there at all...it's a one way trip down river when the water is low. Quote
Conrod Posted May 8, 2021 Posted May 8, 2021 Central Florida- 8.22# 2 days ago 7.54 in 2nd pic and 8.2. (Pic size too large to upload) Been my Best Year Ever!!! 8.2# was PB until 2- days ago 8 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 10, 2021 Global Moderator Posted May 10, 2021 I've got 3 over 7 so far this year, including 1 that is my first 7 not from the power plant lake in several years. The big smallmouth have been impossible to find however. 1 Quote
softwateronly Posted May 10, 2021 Posted May 10, 2021 The last week in March and the first week in April was probably my best stretch of big fish ever, I think even my largemouth PB. I had 3 days with 20+lb bags. Since then has been much more of a grind, but thanks to this site and all of you, I picked up a lot better presentation with jigs and did a little better than alright with a handful of decent fish. scott 1 Quote
