SpinLight Posted May 7, 2021 Posted May 7, 2021 We all live in different places, fish different bodies of water and fish for different kinds of fish from time to time. Nowadays, I fish mostly for spotted bass, and want to throw more topwater. So what type and brand of topwater lures do you like for spots, including length and color? Thanks for your help. mrpao Posted May 7, 2021 Posted May 7, 2021 I catch spotted bass on the same lures I catch largemouths on. I might catch a spot on one cast, then next cast a largemouth. 1 Quote
Super User Chris at Tech Posted May 8, 2021 Super User Posted May 8, 2021 I’ve had some amazing days catching spots on Lanier with chug bugs, full-size spooks and wake baits. Colors are typically something chrome, something clear and solid bone. 1 Quote

Super User NorcalBassin Posted May 8, 2021 Super User Posted May 8, 2021 Depends how much you'd like to spend. I have a bit of a tackle addiction problem, so my preferences are rovers, vixens, rico's, teckel pups, and yellow magics... however, they're pretty aggressive and will probably hit pretty much everything. As far as size goes, just matching the hatch should serve you well. If going in blind smaller will likely be better (<4"). I like a little chartreuse but they'll pretty much hit anything (like the little fella in the pic). 1 Quote
Super User ChrisD46 Posted May 8, 2021 Super User Posted May 8, 2021 *At times it is amazing how large of a lure a small spotted bass will attack ! As has been said , they don't have a mirror in the water to know how small they really are as compared to the prey they will try to eat . 1 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 10, 2021 Global Moderator Posted May 10, 2021 Walking baits, long wake baits, or poppers in shad colors. They love to hit a buzzbait, but hooking them is difficult at times. 1 Quote
