SC53 Posted May 7, 2021 Posted May 7, 2021 Any recommendations on sun gloves? I have some old Buff brand which offer great protection but are too hot in our Florida sun. Looking for a light weight pair but with good grip on the rod side. Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted May 7, 2021 Global Moderator Posted May 7, 2021 I just got the KastKing Sol Armis gloves and they work just fine. Good grip, feel light and they have the pull tabs. Mike 5 Quote
Super User MickD Posted May 7, 2021 Super User Posted May 7, 2021 I have some Huk that are very light, nice gloves. 2 Quote
redux Posted May 7, 2021 Posted May 7, 2021 Simms Guide gloves are the answer. Fabric is light with SFP 50 and the palms/fingers are goat leather. The leather is very soft and durable. I was using them for construction work a few months back and after a few weeks of driving screws the left index finger started to get schewed up. Other than that they are still good to go because the leather is a couple layers thick. Definitely on the pricey side of fishing gloves. I thing they are about $50 but well worth it. I've had mine for 4 years or so and they get heavy fishing use in the deep south of Florida. Quote
Super User FryDog62 Posted May 7, 2021 Super User Posted May 7, 2021 I had a couple different lighter Simms gloves but each wore out in about 3 months. I switched to Fish Monkey full finger Guide Glove and am on my third year with them. They are starting to fray, but since they’ve held up so well I plan to get another pair. Quote
Michigander Posted May 7, 2021 Posted May 7, 2021 I've been using Glacier Gloves brand for several years now, like them a lot. 1 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted May 7, 2021 Super User Posted May 7, 2021 I wear HUK (top pic) & Simms (bottom pic) gloves locally & south of the border - Not a fan of gloves with thick material in the palm, or with glove finger lengths that extend more than half way down the digits. Seems to interfere with dexterity; especially when tying knots. Both of these brands work for me in that regard. Fish Hard A-Jay 2 Quote
Fishnski48 Posted May 7, 2021 Posted May 7, 2021 I use Aqua Lung, got them at Sportsman's Warehouse, reasonable price covers my wrist and are light weight. Here is a link to Campmor with the gloves https://www.campmor.com/products/aqua-lung-sport-sun-glove-mens Quote
Super User Darth-Baiter Posted May 7, 2021 Super User Posted May 7, 2021 I have one pair and they are Simms. I bought them during the pandemic so supply was almost nonexistent. I had no choice but the light gray ones. I seem to still tan a bit with the gloves. Just slightly. I do love the open palm area. Feels better when I palm my reel. im wearing them to death. The fingers are mushrooming out and they seem to catch hooks more easily. I’ll get another pair soon. Quote
Brett's_daddy Posted May 7, 2021 Posted May 7, 2021 Depends, do you want to spend like $50 - $60+ on gloves? If so go with the Simms or Aftco. If you want a cheap/affordable version that will work almost as well but may not last as long go with Kast King Sol Armis (I have these in the Blackout color and they look and feel great!). 1 Quote

The ones I had before the Huk, lasted about 4 years of use, were Glacier Gloves for only about $20. I think the Huk's are lighter/thinner, which is what the poster is looking for. But the Glaciers were very good gloves for the money. 1 Quote
tander Posted May 7, 2021 Posted May 7, 2021 Use Fish Monkey, they had good selection of different styles and colors. 1 Quote
SC53 Posted May 8, 2021 Author Posted May 8, 2021 Thanks for all the replies guys. I like the open palm as I’m mainly looking for protection on the tops of my hands but still want the feel when fishing. Quote
Lead Head Posted May 8, 2021 Posted May 8, 2021 I'm with A-Jay, I hate thick palms and long fingers when it comes to sun gloves. This means my kastking gloves almost never get used. I love the Huk gloves and want to try the open palm simms. Huk is my go-to when it comes to fishing clothes in general. While I definitely haven't tried every brand out there, Huk has outperformed everything that I have tried (with the exception of their shoes... those things are terrible for me). 1 Quote
txchaser Posted May 8, 2021 Posted May 8, 2021 Outdoor research open-palm. Got them for the cooling dots, it's hotter'n'hell in Texas in the summer. Quote

SC53 Posted May 8, 2021 Author Posted May 8, 2021 Thanks Phish. I was wondering about the Outdoor Research ones as well. Can’t find them Quote
schplurg Posted May 9, 2021 Posted May 9, 2021 Doesn't seem like you'd get much sun on the fingers of either hand. What do you all think? I guess maybe they will when not actually reeling or using the rod. I'm looking for protection for just the tops of my hands. I think? Quote

Guitarfish Posted May 9, 2021 Posted May 9, 2021 I don't have real big hands but I buy the large /extra large so they don't cut my circulation. I hate constrictive socks too Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 10, 2021 Global Moderator Posted May 10, 2021 I'm also a fan of the KastKing gloves. I can't tell how many times the faux leather on the palms has saved me from a nasty white bass spine or gill plate. 1 Quote
swhit140 Posted May 10, 2021 Posted May 10, 2021 I've tried the Glacier Gloves and wasn't impressed. The pair lasted maybe 6 months of use and started falling apart. I have a pair identical to the Kast King gloves(just different brand) and they have held up pretty well, I'll say they were better than the Glacier Gloves for me. I'm gonna try the Riverruns Fishing gloves with camo, they have a nice rubberized grip on them. I'll find out how they workout. Quote
