After searching this forum, which really works well compared to other forums, I've decided to go with the following.  I plan on fishing for Bass and maybe Pike.

Shimano Sedona 2500

St Croix Premier 7' (medium heavy-fast)

Some sort of 12# mono

Thanks!  Look forward to your comments.  Unfortunately can't get this until the first week of June... hope I actually can find this stuff not on back order!

Seems like a nice set up! I would think Flourocarbon would be better than mono for pike because of the increased abrasion resistance against the teeth of the pike, but other than that it seems pretty nice! I have a similar set-up a few steps down the price ladder, with a 7'1 Med-Hvy St. Croix Bass X and a 2500 Daiwa Regal LT, and I really like it!

I'd make the main line 20# braid. That will work very well with the 2500 reel. Then a leader if you're in pike country.

I fished a ML 7' Avid with a 2500 Ci4 for almost 10 years and threw (almost) everything on it with decent success.

My suggestion after losing dozens of lures to pike's teeth, this has been tied on once the weeds are up and the water clarity drops down to 7-8' is this....

I prefer braid to leader, especially with spinning, but that might be a personal preference.

Sedona reels are nice reels but you have to grease and keep them clean, make sure to register the reel online with Shimano so your warranty is there when you need cleaning or serviced.  The bigger reels are nicer I think than the smaller reels in that series.  Buy a CI4 and you'll never want anything else.  6lb mono or 8lb works best IMO on this reel.  I've owned several of them and I now have a Sedona 3000 which I love but it's a heavy reel, I've caught a lot of bass on it.

I plan on fishing Metzger Marsh near Toledo.  From what I've read and seen on youtube, the marsh and lake Erie portion seem infested with small Pike?  None seem extremely large, but toothy small ones.  I will highly consider the Flouro then over the Mono, great suggestion (they didn't have that when I was 10... I'm 51 now).  Been seriously looking at leaders as well, neglected to mention that.

Also got set up a two day camping fishing trip at a secluded private 48 acre Bass filled lake, and I can borrow a row boat.  Can't wait until September... such a break from work.  I will be the only person camping and on the lake for sure!

Another thing I have just learned, is the Shimano Stradic CI4+ Spinning Reel 3000 is not available anywhere... hope the St Croix rod is?  Ugh

Try no larger than 8# diameter or 20# braid.

Missed this part.  Unless you mean 80-120# crimped fluoro leaders, then no.  If you're truly dealing with pike, use a tieable steel leader in the 10-20# range if you want to prevent pike bite offs.  It's been my experience that pike and bass location only really intersect briefly in spring and fall. If you're catching pike, move along because they usually drive bass out.

I’ll buy some of that wire for my pike fishing setup when I go pike fishing this summer.

I've got to agree with other posters.  12# for me is a bit too much on that size reel.  Going to 12# fluorocarbon would only make it worse unless you used a soft fluorocarbon.  As a general rule, soft fluorocarbons lack the abrasion resistance of the harder lines.  So I've read.  Have personally used about 3 different fluorocarbon lines so my experience is very limited and worth just what you paid for it.  :lol1:  Don't believe the crap about fluorocarbons having no stretch.  It can be worse than mono.

Braid to leader sounds like a better option.  Won't have to worry about line jumping off the spool.  Line twist will be less, but don't go thinking it will be eliminated just because you went to braid.  Use sound spinning reel practices to help keep it to a minimum.

Best of luck with your endeavor.  Be sure to post back about your successes.

Ive had pike snap 16# sniper fc like a soggy spaghetti noodle.

Also I have Premier 6'6" MH/F spinning rod not much fun for bass fishing its pretty stout unless you want to use frogs.

I caught my 1st Pike there 2 seasons ago, the only time I visited. I been wanting to go back, but you kind of have to go early in the season or that place turns into a underwater jungle.

I owned that st croix mh spinner for years and tried as I may I never found an ideal use for it, it's pretty stiff and tip heavy, I actually used it on occasion for light frogging and 7" senkos. I'd suggest going to the medium power, it will be far more versatile. What lures do you mostly use?

The 6'6" MH Avid blank is a sweetheart.  I would definitely pay more for a rod with an Avid blank instead of the Premier.  Well worth it.  Mojo Bass is the cheapest one with it.  Great rods.

I used to fish with a Sedona on a 6'6" m/f rod.  I never put more than 10 lb mono on it.

Thank you everyone for all your advice.  Reconsidering 7' heavy pole for a lighter 7' or smaller pole; as many of you mentione.  I should also mention I found a shimano stradic ci4+ spinning reel 3000.  They seemed sold out everywhere; I feel lucky for MSRP!  I bought it, heck, I'm 51 with a good job, why not.  Will keep monitoring this post and keep on searching old and new posts.

If you have a lot of pike, there are two options. One, do some research on steel leaders or two, target bass as best you can and come to grips with the fact that you’re just gonna get broken off occasionally.

The latter is what I do. There are some pickerel and muskies around me but I don’t target them...they just hit sometimes. I lose a bait here and there but hey, it’s just the cost of doing business.

Dink, All I have to go by are some decent videos of fishing at Metzger March east of Toledo.  The guy pulled some nice Bass, but small Pike were landed about half the time; I'm sure there could be larger ones.  Yes, I will use a steel leader there... just to be safe.

back in the 90s i used to fish 12 pound mono on a 4000 size shimano spinning reel with no issues at all. they are rated for 160 yrds of 12 pound mono.

but a 2500 or 3000 size is going to be tough for anything over 10 pound mono.
