I'm going to fish the shad spawn for catfish this Friday and I was wondering if bass would feed with catfish. Could I tie on an a-rig or swim bait and try to catch bass while the other 2 people on the boat are fishing for catfish?

Can't believe I'm letting this cat out the bag!

In Toledo Bend many anglers set trotlines for catching catfish, Texas state law requires you to mark trotlines with a float able marker in which contains your name, address, & phone number.

Catfish feed on the same shallow structure as bass do.

To find said structure I look for the trotline markers!

Yes, I catch catfish and bass off the same areas on the same lures all the time.

I do the same here in Mexico except I look for the commercial tilapia nets.  The commercial fisherman know where the tilapia live, the bass eat tilapia, so I look for nets and catch bass.  Only problem is the Bait Monkey loves Tilapia nets.

Live Shad are bass candy fly lined on light line and mosquito drop shot hook.

I've only ever caught cats while fishing for bass once in NY, and it was a brown bullhead that must have been spawning or harassing spawning bass.  Otherwise, I would catch them occasionally, but that was VA and south.  Seems like you have to be in flathead territory.

Both Channel and Blue cats strike bass lures! Caught several on a variety of bass lures like crankbaits, structure spoons, jigs and soft plastic.

If you get a 101 course on how to find bass and catfish, they're generally in the same spots. During feeding times, they will both like shorelines that have a decent slope along the shoreline.

As a kid, all I ever used was nightcrawlers. I often caught bullhead catfish with a few bass mixed in.

Yes at times, in some places. The blue cats are getting really big in these parts, I woulnd't be surprised if one wasn't working on an adaptation of how to serve man.

Yes if you can anchor or drift in shallow area. I caught plenty of catfish while fishing for bass casting to shore, but never caught bass while drifting for catfish in deeper water.

I have found that the catfish don’t trouble my cranks or swimbaits. Worms, craws, grubs yes. In-line spinners yes. Have never had a catfish grab a “naked” hook though. Other than the inline and that’s small cats.

3/4” Nichols flutter spoon caught a catfish yesterday in a school of shad. I caught 30 bass and 1 cat so I’d say your odds are good.
If there’s a school of shad around everyone comes over for dinner.

So this weekend I was throwing a squarebill up shallow, and missed a hookset. Followed it with a chatterbait (which was the better pattern for the day anyway) and my rod doubled over as the fish made for deep water. No real shake, just running hard. OMG it's a huge bass!

No.

Dang catfish. Big one too.

Well guys 31 cats and 3 white bass. All on dead shad. No large mouth but 2 drum.

On a swimmbait.
