Yo-Zuri Hybrid poppers have been working just fine for me as well as my Strike Pro Swing Pop. I didn't catch a fish on the WP for a couple years. Then I decided to only throw it one summer morning and I got a few bites. It paid off big for me a few times since, including this spring. I still have a 110 tied on now, though the bites are getting smaller as the females are moving deeper, postspawn. 1 Quote

This for me also. Caught fish on them, but not as often as I would like. My PB did come on one though. Quote
Black Hawk Basser Posted May 5, 2021 Posted May 5, 2021 Carolina rig and drop shot. I see no need to get any better with them, either. Too many other ways to get 'em. Quote
Super User DitchPanda Posted May 5, 2021 Super User Posted May 5, 2021 I'm also gonna say dropshot..I just don't get it. Only thing I've done is lose weights. Throw Ned in same area and get bites. Quote
HaydenS Posted May 5, 2021 Posted May 5, 2021 Crankbaits for me. I'd rather throw a swim jig, chatterbait, jerkbait, finesse jig. 1 Quote

Super User the reel ess Posted May 5, 2021 Super User Posted May 5, 2021 I struggle with jerkbaits. I don't enjoy fishing with them and it shows. I pretty much have refused to use a dropshot. 1 Quote
Super User LrgmouthShad Posted May 5, 2021 Super User Posted May 5, 2021 Def carolina rig for me Quote
InfantryMP Posted May 5, 2021 Posted May 5, 2021 I struggle with drop shots too. But to be fair I do not give them an honest shake enough. I am also kind of horrible with a swim jig. I have seen DC swimming a jig and it makes me tired just looking at it. I have seen others just use a straight retrieve with a twitch every once in a while. 1 Quote
Super User king fisher Posted May 5, 2021 Super User Posted May 5, 2021 Anything I have to fish slowly. I'm trying to learn to slow down, but I'm having a difficult time with it. Is there a fish to fast support group I can join? 1 1 Quote

If you pair it with the right trailer, the "Alabama Shake" isn't a necessary action for successful swim jig fishing. I probably catch 75% of my fish swimming a jig and I really never do much besides cast and reel.... 2 Quote
Junk Fisherman Posted May 5, 2021 Posted May 5, 2021 Jerkbait I just don't feel comfortable fishing it. I smack the side of my boat too often and have little confidence in my ability to fish it. Quote

It's just a little twitch. Less drama = more fish. Keep trying, but slow it way down. Quote

I have watched quite a few videos and tutorials on this because it is the biggest hole in my arsenal. 1 Quote
5/0 Posted May 5, 2021 Posted May 5, 2021 Have trouble with these too. Going to try twitching it with a side ways motion instead. It’s taking up the slack when working the bait that gets me fowled up. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted May 5, 2021 Super User Posted May 5, 2021 If you can walk a spook, you can work a jerkbait. It's the same. 2 Quote
CrankFate Posted May 5, 2021 Posted May 5, 2021 All of them. If I could get the fish’s attention even 1/4 of the time I can get peoples attention with a few words on a message board, I’d be out fishing on a televised tournament. 1 Quote
Kenny Yi Posted May 5, 2021 Posted May 5, 2021 Anything that is truly finesse; drop shot, shaky head, tubes, even inline spinners. I'm decent at the wacky rig now, but that doesn't mean much to me since a child can use it. Crankbaits; I'm a bank beater so it's nearly impossible at some of my spots, guaranteed to lose all of them, not worth my low budget. Fishing rocks/rip-rap; Same situation as the crankbait, keep losing baits. I don't like dragging baits like football jigs and carolina rigs on the bottom, either. Quote

I've seen guys doing the chuck and whip thing. Looks exhausting. See the pink X-Rap flying through the air? Those don't work Quote

I never catch anything ripping them like that, but I do catch them with regular twitches sometimes. Watch @A-Jayfish one, he just strolls it along 3 Quote
Kdizzle Posted May 5, 2021 Posted May 5, 2021 To you guys saying you have trouble with the dropshot. You can cast it like a regular presentation, but really is a vertical presentation for catching fish you have already got sniped out on your graph. Also, when that weight hits bottom, give it no action, dead stick it until that fish comes up and sucks it in. As with all finesse presentations, subtlety is the key. I've found that just the action you get from the small unnoticeable movements your hand imparts when trying to keep it still, adds enough action to get bit. Quote
Happybeerbuzz Posted May 5, 2021 Posted May 5, 2021 Bottom contact jigs (not swim jigs) are my weakest technique. I bought new equipment for 2021, and I have been trying, but I would estimate that my confidence has not improved since March when I started fishing this season. 1 Quote
