Anyone here ever have one back in the day or have one now? I love the ‘70 and ‘71 and would sell a kidney for one haha. My father and I built a model of one when I was younger and we were doing models on my weekends with him. It’s always been the one I wanted of all the cars we’ve done models of.
 

On FB market place a ‘70 Buick GSX popped up same color scheme and everything of the model GTX and got my head going wanting a old muscle car.

Nope, I had the 69 Charger R/T 426 Hemi.  My first and last MOPAR.  Traded that one in 1970 for a Boss 302 mustang.  Kept that one for five years.  When I came out of basic training in the Air Force, went straight to Italy, so I sold it.  Got me a 72 Fiat Dino, and the wife a Porsche 911 there.

Car I drove in high-school and learned manual on was a 1973 Plymouth Cuda...close as I get to the GTX.

I had the benefit of living through the Muscle car era.  I graduated high school in 1966.  My first hot rod when I was 16 was a 55 Ford with a 1963 Ford 427 in it.  My first production hot rod was the 69 Dodge Charger.  I still think one of the prettiest car I ever saw was a red 1958 chevy Impala with the 348 in it, one of my teachers had.

No, went from a Hemi Charger to a Boss 302, and I'm actually surprised you knew what a Fiat Dino was. 

I've had a large number of vehicles through the years I would love to have back today.

I will go in order of the cars I've owned

1948 Ford (got it for $10, I was 13), 1953 Ford (was 14) , 1955 Ford , 1956 Chevy, 1929 Model A Ford, 1962 Karman Ghia, 1962 VW, 1969 Charger R/T, 1970 Boss 302, 1966 Bronco, 1972 Pinto, 1973 Bronco, 1972 Chevy Wagon, Fiat 2300, Fiat 850, 1972 Fiat Dino, 1970 Porsche 911E, 1975 Ferrari 308, 1970 Mach 1 Mustang,  1986 Chevy Astro Van, Datsun B310 (while in Sicily), 1986 4WD Toyota Pickup, 1982 Z28 Camaro (for my son in high school) 1993 4WD Toyota Pickup (still have it), 1998 4WD chevy Pickup, 1973 VW Super Beetle Convertible, 2001 Chevy 2500HD 4WD pickup,  2004 New Beetle Convertible, 1 Toyota Camry's and 1/2 dozen Highlanders for the wife.   

The VW convertibles are the wife's. 

There a still a few I missed, but as you can see, there are a whole lot I would luv to have back today.

25 years ago, there was one sitting in the lot next to the place I worked, a '67.  It didn't run, but had numbers matching drivetrain and minimal rust, which is amazing for a car up here.  WHen I asked how much, it was what I thought was WAY too much at $14k.  I kind of kick myself a little these days with what these are going for.  I'm not a mopar guy, but that car turned my screws.

This was a weird deal to make production numbers for F2 racing.  They stuck a Ferrari motor made by Fiat in a Fiat from a Ferrari that wasn't badged as a Ferrari.

I also grew up in the muscle car era or when they were still attainable.  For muscle I had a 57 Chevy, a 1964 Ford galaxie with a 390 police interceptor, a 1968 Charger with a 440 magnum and the final one that got me out of the fast and furious crowd when I got a ticket for 89mph over the limit on the interstate....a 1973 Pontiac Firebird Formula 350 that was blueprinted.  I had a bunch of others that I considered more show than go.?

My first car was a 1968 Ford Galaxie 500 XL.  I popped the 302 when I was 15 so I went out and grabbed a junkyard 390.  After I rebuilt the motor I went to put it in and realized the frame was rusted out so I had to find a complete car.  Found a 4 door, paid a local welder to shorten it and did a frame swap all before I turned 16.  Still miss that car.

Believe it or not, it was PINK.  Funny thing there.  We drove by the Ford dealership when they were unloading two Pink Pinto's.  My wife and I laughed saying who in the world do they think is going to buy those.  

Well, low and behold, the gas crunch started and I was looking for something that got better gas mileage.  Since a friend of mine owned the Ford Dealership, I paid him a visit since NO BODY was making deals on economy cars, they couldn't keep them on the lot.  Dave, my friend, said I've got a Pinto I will make you a deal on.  I said "I hope you're not talking about one of those pink one's I saw them unloading" Yep!.  Sticker price on the car was $3,200.  He sold it to me for $2,400.  Back then it was only a few hundred bucks to get one painted, and I figured I could get it painted and still come out way ahead.  When I went in the AF in 75, my mother liked the car so I gave it to her.  You couldn't sell the thing, nobody was going to buy a pink pinto.

I bought my unfinished ‘65 GTO from a collector who just closed his muscle car museum and had his collection at Mecum’s Kissimmee auction last month. 

I’m a past GTO Association of America concourse judge. 
Been involved in restoring and appraising all makes and models of muscle cars for over 40 yrs. 
 

I’m sure you know what a Hemi anything is worth today!

If you don’t I hesitate to tell you.

Trust me, I know all too well.  However, every time I think about some of those vehicles I had and start getting depressed.  I think about a friend of my oldest brother we used to run around with.  Back in 1966 He traded a 300SL for a 427 AC Cobra, which eventually traded for something else..

Yeah I grew up in the wrong era being a car guy. The fast and furious franchise was big when I turned 16 soooooooo yeah lol.

 

Closest I’ve been to a muscle car was kinda far from it other than name and the engine I put in it. Shortly after college I picked up a ‘89 camaro rs on my lunch break while working in a shop. Was out test driving a car I just did something on I don’t remember but saw the camaro up the road from the shop with a for sale sign on it. 

 

Ran down on my lunch break and talked to the guy who was selling it on his son as a punishment for poor grades and horsing around in it kissing the bridge with it explaining the miss matched fender and hood plus the bumper held together with sheet metal and rivets. Gave him $600 for it and drove it to the shop. 
 

I went to college for auto body after the first 3 months switched to automotive because I thought it was cooler to make cars go fast rather than look pretty. During the engines portion I built a 383 stroker with a kit out of summit I think it was and a junkyard 350. Never put it in a car till I got my skittles camaro I called it having different colored panels. My boss had a transmission for it and we spent a weekend swapping it out and welding braces into the “frame” being it was a unibody camaro. 
 

Was my sleeper car left all the V6 badges on it and mismatched body panels with the one wheel peel. Never did put it on the road just took the plates of my Mazda 626 at the time and put it on the camaro to go do burn outs infront of friends houses. Kept it for a year got bored with it while building a 240sx and ended up trading it for a paintball gun.....yeah....

Sold mine for $3500 in '07 with 343k on it to a guy I know. He sold it last year to a kid who door knocked him every few months trying to get him to sell. The brake lines had rusted out in spots, he didn't want to bother with it, so the kid took it for $1k. If it had airbags, and I didn't need to worry about passengers, I'd still have it. I don't know why but I'm drawn to his videos. Just watched one where he destroyed a Raptor. My favorite one so far is the Challenger with the Amish buggy wheels.

I watched the one where he was driving in the ocean and when he bought the general lee and now he keeps showing up in recommended. Each thumbnail is something destroyed
