Super User LrgmouthShad Posted May 3, 2021 Super User Posted May 3, 2021 Hey ya'll, Looking for recommendations on a cheap spinning rod to get for shad raps and inline spinners ranging from 1/4oz-3/8oz. This is an area where I don't feel the need to spend a whole lot, but want a rod that works for both because I love these lures. Would like a medium action, maybe a moderate fast tip or moderate tip. Thanks! Quote

huZZah Posted May 3, 2021 Posted May 3, 2021 Daiwa Lagunas are cheap. The arid x is more but a significant upgrade. Especially if you already have the reel. I would avoid the H20 express rods. Yikes. Wal mart had some cheap Lews spinning rods that are fine; I have a couple. But I like my lagunas for what they are: cheap rods that work fine. 1 Quote

Well, goes lighter and heavier than what you indicated, but my light-crank rod would fit the bill Okuma Reflexions 7' - ML/MF-F - 1/8-5/8oz - $75 https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/catpage-OKUMARDS.html?from=basres On 5/3/2021 at 9:12 AM, huZZah said: Daiwa Lagunas are cheap. mrpao Posted May 3, 2021 Posted May 3, 2021 I'm going to suggest a Daiwa Procyon. They come in various lengths and actions. They are right at the $80 retail but can usually be found for much less. I have been very pleased with mine rods. I throw spinners and spoons for trout with them. Usually 1/8 to 3/8 oz lures. 1 Quote

huZZah Posted May 3, 2021 Posted May 3, 2021 I’m missing something...I have a Laguna 7’ medium action spinning with a medium fast tip. It’s pasted on the rod. 7SMMF. Medium/medium fast tip no? And sorry the link is BC Quote

The current listing on Diawa's site shows no Moderate or Moderate-Fast action Lagunas. https://daiwa.us/collections/freshwater-rods/products/laguna-rods Power is Medium - Action is Moderate-Fast for your rod according to the specs you posted. huZZah Posted May 3, 2021 Posted May 3, 2021 I guess so. Interesting. Well, I stand by my Lews statement as well. Perfectly suitable budget spinning rods. I can’t check the models right now but that’s how budget they are...$30-$40 and I didn’t bother remembering ? Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted May 3, 2021 Super User Posted May 3, 2021 $80 is cheap now? I must be El Cheapo mas grande. I have a Lightning rod 7' M-Mod for lighter treble lures. $40 and It'll do everything you want. It's a great balanced rod. I have a Pflueger Trion 2500 on it. $80 combo reg. price. But I found the reel unopened in a pawn shop for $20. 2 Quote

And I was wrong about the reel size I have on it. It's a 30 size. Quote
thunderblack Posted May 3, 2021 Posted May 3, 2021 favorite ultra light / light spinner in this price range is without a doubt the Lamiglas X11. Cast inline spinners and smaller trout lures a mile. I have a 7' UL and its a fun little budget rod. Highly recommend it. Quote
GetFishorDieTryin Posted May 3, 2021 Posted May 3, 2021 I highly recommend you check out 13s Fate Black, it fishes like a 120$ rod as far weight, sensitivity, balance and action. The Fate spinning rods are all labeled as Fast actions, but 13s F is closer to a SC Mod F. You dont need much power with treble hooks, so instead of a M I would suggest going down in power and up in length to the 7'6 ML. The 7'6 would help you get a little more distance with Shad Raps and the longer tip section would give the rod a more parabolic bend which should help you land more fish with trebles hooks. 1 Quote
Super User soflabasser Posted May 3, 2021 Super User Posted May 3, 2021 You can get an Ugly Stik rod that will be good for inline spinners and Shad Raps for less than $80. 1 Quote
Super User jimmyjoe Posted May 3, 2021 Super User Posted May 3, 2021 Take a look at the Fenwick Eagle 2 rods; they have a light and a medium light, both moderate fast. Not the fanciest, but seem to be built to last. jj 2 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 4, 2021 Global Moderator Posted May 4, 2021 If you can find one in that price range, the Falcon Bucoo SR 7' M/M spinning rod is perfect for those baits. I bought one just for shad raps and 1.0 squarebills and couldn't be happier. 1 Quote
