I tend to sell reels that I no longer use/have upgraded. I prefer they get used by someone rather than sit on a shelf collecting dust. That's why I take good care of them so they see the most mileage possible. I never throw them around and I use reel covers when traveling and they see seasonal maintenance.

For years I kept 20 rod & reel combos ready to bass fish, 15 in the boat depending on seasonal periods.

Today no boat and only keep 6 rod & reel combos ready to use as a back seater and take 4 depending what the bite is.

Reels: 4 Daiwa baitcasting, 2 Shimano spinning.

I'm a relatively recent convert.  Nothing against Shimano, I just haven't walked down that path yet, but fully intend to in the future.  I used to be an Abu guy.

This is pretty close to what I have too. 8 BC and 3 spinning specifically for bass fishing.

 

I’ve also got a couple ultra lights for panfish and 2 muskie setups.

 

Honestly if I had more I don’t know how much use they’d get.

I’m right there with you. I’d like to add one more and call it done and just switch things around.

I have very limited experience with their low profile reels, but I love the Ambassadeur.  I don't use them nearly as much as I used to, but they are really nice reels.

Ambassadeurs are really good, I mean the old ones as far as I know, But spinning and low profiles I had very bad luck.

My buddy had a fishing day ended by both reels birds-nested.  His benchmade IRT spinning reel had poor spool shimming from factory, and the palm cap on his new Abu LP came off mid-cast.  

He had already complained about it trying to come apart.  He and another mutual friend took a paddling tour of new water, then headed for the barn.  

This was part of the reason I opted not to buy a JDM Abu LX992Z, and bought Daiwa instead.  

 

My Abu CT's will out-cast every other baitcaster ever made.

I own no CT reels, but I typically use my Ambassadeurs for pier fishing the Great Lakes and they too are my furthest casting reels.

The larger diameter spool combined with Ultracast bearings and all the bearing options out there means nothing has to work as hard.  

You can also really slick up a LW for braid and lighter weights with the shallow spool options from Avail, and the idler and worm gear options from Valley Hill and Mike's.  

Japan Tackle lists an Avail 2500C spool that won the 2012 World Casting Championship

(I'm sure that reel had the LW removed)

My 5500 is already chock full of bearings plus the ported idler gear, lightweight Avail line guide, and a lighter spool from Rocket Reel Company.  She's a screamer.  The only reason I haven't tried a CT is I'm unsure of how to feed the line back to the spool.
