I’ve always had great confidence in all the Powerbait offerings from BERKLEY. Several years ago when the maxscent stuff came out I tried them out and wasn’t getting much out if them.

What have been you guys’ experience or thoughts? Do you feel the Maxscents are that much better to choose them over the powerbaits or not much of a difference.

Thanks for any and all help!

While I haven't used any maxscent yet I do love Powerbait lures. Does the maxscent smell more? I'm wondering if it actually disperses scent into the water or its just the taste when they bite it.

? I’m assuming my question wasn’t a good one.

The old Powerbaits were some of my go to baits for trailers. I tried the same ones with MaxScent and my catch rate plummeted.

Needless to say, I'm not a fan.

Don't have luck on Maxscent like I would prefer, I don't understand the hype about them anymore, some tournament guys got really angry when MLF did that April fools thing last month about banning it, I don't know the whole story but I'm guessing they didn't get the memo that it was April 1st.

Normal powerbait on the other hand goes hard. First ever texas rig bass for me was caught back in 2006 on Red flake powerworms. I love those things so much, OG powerbait is great.

I like maxx scent and think it works.  I don’t know if it’s better than power bait.  I think it’s more lure dependent.  I have a lot of Berkley power bait lures  that I use, love chigger craws or other power bait craws/creatures .  I really like maxx scent general/ stick bait  worm for wacky rigging in clear water.

maxx scent is definitely more smelly than power bait.  Get that stuff on your hands and it lingers around all day

I haven't fished MaxScent head-to-head with PowerBait, but I've been successful with both.

I've never had any luck with regular Powerbait stuff, but I can tell you that when the fishing is slow the Maxscent General and Kingtail can absolutely prevent a skunking.  I have a buddy that fishes the same lakes as me and he likes the Powerbait worms (but agrees that the Maxscent is a killer on slow days) so a lot of it is the effort you put in.

I've got the General in Powerbait but not max scent. Do they have a different compound that makes it have a different action or just more stank to them?

That’s a good question.

Have to agree with others. I fish a lot of Berkley. The MaxScent has been a bit disappointing. I feel some of the MaxScent shapes should have fit into my type of fishing. Has not happened yet. Not skunked but not setting the world on fire either.

I have done really well with the MaxScent General.  I can't say it is better than any other stick bait, but it is certainly up there.

I've collected some of the other baits but not really fished them yet.

I sure hope the Maxscent works well.  I bought 35 bags of it, but I only paid under $2 per bag.  I am going to give it a test this summer and see if I did OK.  I have heard it works better for smallmouth, but hopefully the green bass like it too.

Yeah, our Fleet Farm had them for $1.72-$1.92 per pack.  I was there again today and they had some flat nose minnows for $1.72 again.  I didn’t buy more.  I need to see how they work.  Not sure why they were doing that.  I could have bought 100’s of bags when they first went on sale.

I use both with confidence. On Sunday I was catching smallmouth with a Maxscent flatnose minnow and the bite shut off. I changed color but had to use a Powerbait minnow instead. And started catching fish again.

Wow, there must be a definite difference then. It will be interesting to see how it works for me.  I am hope it works with baits where they need to hold on a little bit like T-rigs, drop shot, and wacky rigging.

There is a big difference, and Maxscent is no joke. I reviewed the baits a couple years ago in our articles section.

I bought 23 bags of generals, 2 jerk Shadz, 5 flat nose minnows, 8 creature hogs, 6 critter hogs, and 4 bags of Kingtail worms. I tried to attach a pic, but it didn’t work.  It said it was too big?

There's a 22 bag of Generals limit.
