Daiwa BG Clicking

I apologize if this has been asked/answered. I searched and didn't find anything. I have two Daiwa BG 2500's that were purchased last fall. I have noticed over the past couple week that both have developed a clicking sound when retrieving. This only seems to happen when there is tension on the line (Fighting a fish or retrieving a heavier lure) I run Suffix braid (not sure if that has anything to do with it or not) Still feels smooth, but the clicking noise is annoying for a $100+ reel that's only been used for a few months. I did oil the roller bearing and that didn't make any difference. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

won't pass up the obvious dumb question here - have you checked the spool drag setting?  

 

After that, next step is identifying the click pattern v. handle rotation - how many times - does it match 1x handle rotation or 1x rotor rotation. 

If it's the latter, could be anywhere from the pinion gear up through the rotor.  A/R bearing would be a good suspect.  

If it's the former, might want to look at the main gear and main bearing.

Check for stickers on the rotor. I have a Fuego that drove me crackers with clicking that made no sense. Eventually realised it was the sticker which had come loose and was rubbing on the spool.

I would try to isolate it. Run the line round the bail roller and move it backwards and forwards under different tensions, no noise, try winding the line under tension with different drag settings. Try swapping the reel handle to the other side ETC. Anything you can do to make one controlled change at a time to try to isolate the issue. Stickers would be too easy!

Penns were notorious for clicking when the pinion would reach the top and bottom of the stroke.  The severity can vary from reel to reel.  Most of the time the wind is blowing or your if fishing around moving water there is enough background noise that you wont hear it.  Worse cases you can actually feel it and that's when it drives you nuts.  Like I said, its common with older Penns but its not limited to them.  Out of all the reels I own, my gen 1 Stradic Ci4 does it the worst.

Did you ever solve this issue? My two do the exact same thing you describe. I don’t think it’s the line roller

It is about lightning your spool tension. you tight that and clicking sound will be gone.

yes, I meant tight the drag, sorry. I have BG8000 and I know exactly what's wrong with his relit is nothing wrong. just tight the drag little and that noice will gone

Check the anti-revers pawl. It might be hitting against the pinion gear/drive gear
