Super User RoLo Posted July 28, 2007 Super User Posted July 28, 2007 You know, that Cencoe thing Quote
New 2 Bass Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 I've never caught one on an original rap or a rap DT crank. Pop raps only catch me turtles for some reason. Xraps only get me peacocks and get tore up. I have never caught one on a swimbait but have been escorted back to shore 2 times by monsters. Never caught one on a buzzbait. Never on a jig. Only had one hit ever on a spinnerbait. For what its worth. ;D Quote
bugman Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 Chatterbaits. In the past two years I've caught more Bass on the chatterbait than any other hard bait. (no skirt with a super fluke) In the last six months I have only caught three bass on the CB. Go figure!!! I have never caught a bass with a Toad, butI think it's more about me than the lure. Quote
Rattlinrogue Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 I'd say $15-$25 hardbaits myself.I own a few,and they're good baits that catch bass.I catch as many or more on the $5-$7 hardbaits. Quote
IneedAnewScreenName-i098509 Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 Just curious for those of you that said the Chatterbait. Have you tried any others besides the "Chatterbait" name? If not, PM me, I'd like to change your mind As for the lures that are the most over rated, I'd have to say Lucky Craft. Good lures but not any better than a $5.00 CB JMO Quote
Super User grimlin Posted July 29, 2007 Super User Posted July 29, 2007 SENKOS i second that... Quote
Guest avid Posted July 29, 2007 Posted July 29, 2007 I don't get how people can say the senko is overrated. I can understand if you think they are overpriced, but how could the most copied lure ever designed be overrated? Quote
fish-fighting-illini Posted July 29, 2007 Posted July 29, 2007 probably has a lot to do with the style of the fisherman I catch prob 40% of my bass on spinners of some kind ( crappie style or bass style ) I catch probably 50% of all my bass on swimbaits ( the .50 ea for me not the $15 ones) never caught anything on a jig ( has to be the fisherman ) not much on worms To me an overrated bait is any one over $4-$5 ea or any that are more than 25% more than a similar lure that will work almost as well Quote
Super User T-rig Posted July 29, 2007 Super User Posted July 29, 2007 Well, I'm gonna catch flack for this one, but I'd have to say $15 and up crankbaits. Don't own one and never will. (That's my story and I'm stickin' to it ) Until you try one! Quote
Super User grimlin Posted July 29, 2007 Super User Posted July 29, 2007 I don't get how people can say the senko is overrated.I can understand if you think they are overpriced, but how could the most copied lure ever designed be overrated? Because i get bigger better fish using other lures. For some people jig are most unwanted using lure because they have a hard time catching with it.For me it's the senkos I've caught 2 fish so far using the senko and i believe it was because of the style of techique and presentation i used and not the "magic of the senko".For $6.99 i expect better...therefore if i do use a worm i use another one that's cheaper and works just as well. I just don't see the rave and greatness of the senkos...sure i can catch small ones every now and then.I just enjoy fishing jigs and for some reasons jigs are getting all my bigger fish...as the senkos i'm managing to catch 1 pounders. Also i fish for smallmouths alot of times...and i have yet to get a smallmouth bite a senko. Quote
Super User Hookemdown. Posted July 29, 2007 Super User Posted July 29, 2007 I'll agree that the senko is expensive. But it's NOT overrated in my book. IMHO I'll also say that $15+ cranks are overrated. Sure they work. But my $4 bombers and 7$ Rapalas work just as good. Quote
Guest ncbass24 Posted July 29, 2007 Posted July 29, 2007 Well, I'm gonna catch flack for this one, but I'd have to say $15 and up crankbaits. Don't own one and never will. (That's my story and I'm stickin' to it ) Until you try one! x2 Quote
VekolBass Posted July 29, 2007 Posted July 29, 2007 I don't get how people can say the senko is overrated.I can understand if you think they are overpriced, but how could the most copied lure ever designed be overrated? I agree with Avid on this. As far as being overpriced, perhaps, but I decided to try some of the knock offs lately like the Yum Dinger, and have not caught a fish yet on them. Could be just a matter of time and place though. My observation is that if you throw a bait with a proven reputation, learn to work it correctly, you will catch fish on it. I have never caught a fish on top water yet, but that is because I use them only occasionally, and only until I get frustrated and start loosing confidence. Then I give up and default to something I have confidence in. My son, being more adventurous, is becoming proficient with top water, and routinely catches fish with them. Quote
Guest SkyChimp Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 SHIMANO! Oh wait, you said lure. Yamamoto brand Senkos. They work no doubt, but in my experience no better than Yum Dinger. And Yum Dingers don't tear as easily. Quote
fishing=life Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 im gonna have to go with senkos. they just dont produce for me.its probably the fisherman and not the lure Quote
bubbler Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 banjo minnow. i dont think its worth the money......maby im wrong how could u say such a thing about senkos Quote
fishing=life Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 im sure senkos would produce for me if i tried to fish them for a while but i dont have the patience.id rather be throwin a spinnerbait. Quote
rocknfish9001 Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 believe it or not, i have KILLED on the banjo minnow when everything else failed. Absoloultey no joke Quote
bassn4life Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 Zoom Horny Toad. i have actually had great success with these. I have caught a lot of bass and some pretty big ones on the horny toad. Maybe im just in the right place at the right time but i really like this lure. Quote
Lucky Craft Man Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 As for the lures that are the most over rated, I'd have to say Lucky Craft. Good lures but not any better than a $5.00 CB JMO I assume you are not talking about Lucky Craft jerkbaits. I don't think there is any jerkbait on the planet that works better than these. So far for me, the most overrated lure has been the Fat Ika. I use this lure a lot, but I only managed a few with it. I will keep trying and hopefully I will have a break through. Quote
Super User Catt Posted July 30, 2007 Super User Posted July 30, 2007 I assume you are not talking about Lucky Craft jerkbaits. I don't think there is any jerkbait on the planet that works better than these. Now that's funny right there Quote
nra4life Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 just cause you have never caught a fish on something doesn't mean it is overrated, it probably means that you don't fish it enough, don't fish it right, or the bass don't like it in the area you are fishing. Or maybe you just suck at fishing period Quote
CJ Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 nra4life,that's not nice. I think a lure brand is mostly a confidence thing.Sure Lucky Craft makes good lures and so does Megabass. They have features other lures don't.Overrated?Maybe...Over priced?Definantly. As far as jerkbaits,Smithwick Rattlin' Rogues are hard to beat once they are tuned properly. Most overrated lure? The chatterbait,IMO CJ Quote
The Dude Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 Chatterbaits seem to get a bad rap. I have had days when I can't buy a hit on one of them, then other days, the fish just tear them up. I do know that at the pond we fish at, my buddy and I have both caught our PB's on chatterbaits Quote
