My fiance gets on me because I will not buy a $25 shirt (a nice one), but I have no problem buying more SLX DC's.

Also she mentioned to me why I keep getting my 3 subscription services when I have like 3k worth of bait and tackle in the boat. I guess I do not have a good answer to that either, except for I like surprises.

My wife asked me the same thing in Academy Tuesday when she wanted to look at clothes that were on sale. I had a little over $30 worth of lures/plastics in my hands and no interest in clothes. I can justify that much money and MUCH more in fishing gear, but I have no room in my budget for clothes lol

Look at it this way ....

It’s good training.
After you get married she can’t say she didn’t know what she was getting into!!

I wish I had an academy close by. I was in NC two years ago, and I bought like $100 worth of lures, and had to get searched by TSA because of all the hooks. Thankfully since they were not open they let me keep them!

Aint this the truth lol...Its just not the fishing stuff. In the winter here I cannot fish. So I go to my other hobby. I have a 1972 Chevelle that I am restoring in my garage. Winter money goes to the Chevelle. Spring and Summer goes to the boat and fishing.

She Who Must Be Obeyed made me go and buy some clothes a little while ago. And a pair of shoes.

We went to Old Navy, so it wasn't too terribly bad. It's still more expensive than the perfectly good Dickies work pants I have, the three two pairs of basketball shorts, a choice between free handout t-shirts (Tackle Warehouse or dev conference swag) or band shirts, and a choice between yard work shoes that the puppy's chewed up or hunting boots.

I'm being frugal, dangit!

Besides, I work at home and don't heave the house for days on end. What am I dressing up for?

I have been working from home for the last 4 years, and I own sweats, and cargo shorts...

I have like 5 polos for mandatory video meetings...I love it. I could never go back to the office ever again.

My work supplies me with plenty of clothes(maintenance tech) and I get to re-up them once a year with three shirts and three pairs of pants. They are flame retardant so new they are a little thick, but by the time they are broken in and out of spec they are really comfortable for fishing. Problem solved and good enough for me.

Clothes just aren’t something that I care to spend a lot of money on. Work boots are a different story. My redwings run me $150-$200 a pair but I also get a good couple two or three years out of them. Most of my clothes are gifts. Well, most of my “good” clothes are gifts.

Does fishing clothes(Bibs, Huk stuff, buffs, hats, etc) not count?

During the pandemic my company switched from business attire to casual attire. This was due to the policy change to no visitors.

I can wear jeans and casual shirts instead of suit and tie. The money I saved has gone to fund my fishing addiction.

I know the feeling

I have a ‘65 GTO National show winner.
Between that and fishing, sometimes I’m surprised we lasted 51 yrs!!

Mine is the same way. How do these women think we afford what really matters to us? It's not the shirt that really matters.

Fair point. They will be allowed…

I have a problem with wool sweaters and north face hoodies, too. It’s not just fishing for me.

My mom used to say when I was a kid that I would go to school in rags, but my fishing gear was always on point. Some things never change. I have to say I have some nice stuff and I'm always looking for more lures. But I could easily spend more. I fish from an $800 kayak. I finally sold my boat a couple years ago after not using it for three. That in itself is a big savings. One of these days I'm going to feel too old for the kayak and I'll buy a jon boat with trolling motor and a trailer.

I don't buy her jewelry & she doesn't buy me tackle.

I've never had a job tell me what clothes to wear, had one try!

Finances has ruined more marriages than fishing!
